3 Easy Fall Lantern Designs to Cozy up the Season

Fall is the season where “cozy” is the word we all want to use to describe our homes. For me, nothing says cozy like a pretty autumn lantern. Today I’m sharing 3 easy fall lantern designs to bring that cozy feel into your home.

Getting ready for Autumn each year is something I really look forward to. Taking my decor from the cool and breezy feel of the summer months to a warm and cozy fall atmosphere is always the goal. For me, that means thick warm throws, a glowing fire in the fireplace, and lanterns!

For some, adding a pretty candle is enough. I certainly have a few of those around the house. But part of what I love about the fall season is the amazing color that comes with it. I try to bring as much of that to my lantern designs that is humanly possible. I’ve included three of my favorites here today along with links to help you recreate your own.

If I Only Had a Brain…

I’ve been in love with scarecrows ever since I saw the Wizard of Oz for the first time. Because of that, there is no shortage of them in my fall decor. I decided my smallest ones needed a home for the season and this lantern provided the perfect place.

With the purpose of a lantern being a vessel for light, I always make sure there is a source for that in every design. Normally, a battery operated candle is my go to. Since I am focused on creating a fall themed scene here, a candle would take up too much space. Instead, mini lights attached to a tree I fashioned from gold flower stems will do the trick.

Faux leaves of various colors cover the battery pack and add more pop to my scarecrow’s home. The little house came from Walmart last year but I haven’t seen them since. I’ve included other options that can be used in its place in the links below.

Of course a fall bow to grace the top makes it pretty in the daytime as well.

I think my scarecrows will be happy here, don’t you?

This easy fall lantern design will grace one of two entry tables through the season. The scarecrows make such a cute welcoming committee too!

For this design, any lantern that is 7 inches wide and at least 10 inches tall would work nicely. These links will help you create your very own version!

A Little Bit of Faith…

This lantern has always been a favorite of mine. It reminds of the little country church in my town. The shape alone brings a warm feeling even when empty. But of course, I’m never one to leave well enough alone as the saying goes.

A pretty fall pick is the backdrop for a birch bark flickering candle and a favorite fall sign.

Since this lantern is set on the sofa table, it is visible from both sides. Although the front is the highlight of the design, I needed to make sure the back was interesting as well. A second sign here accomplishes that.

This easy fall lantern design will brighten up both the family room and kitchen. It is a daily reminder of the importance of faith and family.

To create a design similar to this, you will need a lantern that is at least 14 inches tall and 5.5 to 7 inches wide. However, most signs are tiered tray size and measure at least 6 inches so the wider the better. Here are just a few to consider.

I Am Blessed!

This is the time of year when I will spend a lot of quiet moments sitting by the fire. The long, lazy, days of summer are now treasured memories. The wonderful, yet totally hectic holidays are still far out on the horizon. But this time, right now, has me feeling incredibly blessed.

Because that word seems to sum up the season for me, I always try to include this little sign somewhere in my fall decor. I used it as part of a lantern topper I crafted last year and I loved the look. With a few small changes, I decided it would work this year as well.

The lantern topper is a combination of a pretty fall pick, some thick wired ribbon, and of course my little sign. Buffalo checked decor is a part of almost every room in my home. Since this lantern is to be a part of the family room, I needed to incorporate a little bit of plaid in somehow. The bow accomplished that here.

My three skinny pillars fit perfectly leaving enough room to create a fall scene here too.

This cute little scarecrow seems quite happy sitting atop some small velvet pumpkins. Such a pretty addition to the family room coffee table for the season!

I saw this exact lantern at Kirklands just a few weeks ago. It is 12.5 inches tall and 6 inches wide. Here are a few others that would work if they better suit your style.

Lanterns are always a favorite in this house. They are a one time purchase yet each season they become a new decoration. Talk about bang for your buck! It’s my hope that at least one fall lantern design that I’ve shared today will inspire you to create one of your own this season!
