Another Christmas has come and gone. The decorations that you painstakingly put up not that long ago have been carefully packed away again. The house looks incredibly bare and you’re asking yourself what now? Let’s take a look at 5 easy ways to welcome winter into your home.
If you live in a warm climate, this post is probably not something you’re very interested in. Honestly, at this moment, you’re not at the top of my friend list either! But if you’re like me, there are months of winter ahead so we might as well own it! The best way to do that is to make our homes as warm and cozy as possible. I’ve got a few ideas that might help you accomplish that without a whole lot of fuss.

1. Add Some Warmth to the Season with Pillows and Throws
I love bringing bursts of color to my home decor. From the soft pastels of Springtime to the vivid shades of fall and everything in between. However, after the bright red that helped make my Christmas merry, I am ready for the neutral shades of nature. At the moment, the landscapes that surround my Colorado home call for a lot of wintery whites.
Switching out the bright red pillow covers with a warm white version is an easy seasonal upgrade.
Adding a pretty throw or two brings a cozy feel to any room as well.
Fur is a wonderful way to welcome winter into any room. The rug can be purchased below. We are keeping the little fur baby in the picture!
2. Put Away the Ornaments but Leave the Tree!
When I was growing up, THE Christmas tree held a treasured spot in the front window. In most households nowadays, multiple trees are the norm. Different sizes, different themes, often one for every room. I don’t go that far anymore but I do use quite a few small trees around the house. It still seems silly to bother with them for a 30 day run so I remove the ornaments but keep the trees in place for the winter season as well.
I love the color and the cozy feel the trees bring to several rooms in the house. Placing a few snow birds here and there add to the winter vibe.
Mini trees added to a tiered tray are a great starting point for any design.
Likewise, replacing the Christmas decor with a few small fir trees on the Hot Chocolate Bar ensures it can stay in place for the new season.
3. Bring in the Natural Elements of the Season
Take advantage of the rare moments between snowfalls to gather a few natural elements to add to your winter decor. Pine cones are a must for the season. They can be used in so many different ways! You don’t have to break the bank to welcome winter!
Pine cone wreaths move easily from autumn through winter.
After years of putting up real trees and dealing with an abundance of pine needles, I’m big on faux greenery this time of year.
Winter greenery added to a basket automatically brings the season into focus!
4. Light a Path Through the Season
I have to admit it… winter really is a beautiful season. However, with the thin skin that comes with age, I find myself dreading it more and more each year. The only place that I’m truly comfortable these days is from my chair, wrapped in a throw, sitting in front of the fireplace!
Besides craving physical warmth, I also find myself wishing for the light that comes with the longer days of summer. To compensate, I light my winter home with the warm glow of candles, both real and faux. The battery operated candles turn on automatically at dusk and make sure we come home to a cozy atmosphere.
Pretty on their own but a gorgeous way to light up my winter galvanized houses too!
Scented candles and essential oil dispensers bring the wonderful smell of the outdoors inside.
5. Add Some Beauty with Art and Printables
I love the inside to reflect the outside in the winter months. I use snowy canvases, signs for the season, and my own printable art to accomplish the look.
This canvas looks like so many of the beautiful places we’ve gone to visit in our gorgeous state.
Using signs as well as decorative plates will easily add a touch of the season anywhere.
Printables are a great way to keep the cost of your winter welcome quite low. There are several available in the Printable Library from last year and I’ve added a few new ones today. This series of 3 are among my personal favorites.
I’ve also added a few tiered tray signs for the winter season as well!

Hi Denise. Your home looks very cosy and settled down for a long winter time. Black and white certainly lends itself to the spirit of winter. I would never have thought to leave trees up after Christmas until I started blogging, and what great sense it makes. I’m getting started on putting most things away now..Happy New Year..xxoJudy
Thanks Judy! I always went from Christmas straight into spring before I started my blog. Missed an entire season! Happy New Year!
Hi Denise! Your home is absolutely beautiful and ready for a long winter’s nap! I love the way you have everything so cozy. I’m also glad that the furbabies are doing better! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Lynne! We are so blessed that the babies are all doing well now!
I can FEEL the coziness of that decor and those throws! But, I gotta admit, I’m missing the “feel it in person” thing. 🙂
Thank you Rhonda! Unlike you… we are still in the same place! Hop on that plane… I miss you!
Denise, your home looks lovely with the winter touches. Cozy is the key. I am happy to feature your Welcome Winter post at Love Your Creativity.

It all looks so nice, love the candles but…do I have to welcome winter? Nah, I’m going to ignore it 🙂 Thanks so much for linking up at the Unlimited Link Party 98. Shared.
Thanks Dee! Of course you can ignore it! I would too but it’s impossible here.
