Easter is coming! Are you Ready??? Just in case you’re running behind like I am, I’m sharing some beautiful Easter/spring centerpieces to create in hurry.
The Easter holiday has certainly crept up on me this year! I think it’s because for the first time in ages, I will not be hosting the big celebration this time. However, having hosted several in my lifetime, I know that right about now is when panic sets in. So many questions running through your mind. Are the place settings pretty enough? Which stemware looks better? Do I have enough food? And the scariest of all, what can I use for a centerpiece???
Of course you can always order an Easter flower arrangement to be delivered on Saturday and be done with it. Still, with prices on everything being sky high this year, that may not be in budget. You still have a few days left and I have faith that you can put together a beautiful centerpiece at a minimal cost that everyone will love. Let’s take a look back at some of my favorites!
Spring Flowers
Nothing says springtime like a fresh flower arrangement. A pretty vase full of spring posies can make any Easter table beautiful. That being said, you do not need a florist, you just need the flowers and a little imagination.
To keep the cost down, nix the flower shop and visit your favorite grocery store. One bouquet is enough if you follow a few simple tips. For instance, use a smaller container. Flowers cut closer to the bloom will give a fuller look. I found this pretty offering at Trader Joes last year for just under $5.00. Although they couldn’t begin to fill the vase I had intended, they looked gorgeous in the little yellow bucket.
To make a taller vase look as if it’s overflowing, grab your tape. Place strips across the top in a checkered pattern and divide the flowers between the openings. No one will ever see the tape and it will give the illusion of a much larger bouquet.
On the other hand, if fresh flowers will have Aunt Hazel sneezing all through brunch, then by all means go faux. Faux flowers are so realistic these days and the color combinations are endless. Not to mention the added bonus of having the ability to use any container you choose.
Got Veggies?
Two of my favorite centerpieces of all time were perhaps the very definition of “last minute.” The inspiration for both were in the crisper drawer of the fridge. It’s amazing what you can do when desperation sets in! Granted the first would not have been nearly as pretty without a little potted hydrangea I had bought on a whim the day before. It fit perfectly in a napa cabbage I hollowed out.
In that same vein, a bag of carrots provided an adorable centerpiece for a quick Easter luncheon. Who knew carrot stalks could look almost like a weeping willow?
Using a pretty bowl or a colander with faux veggies can be pretty too!
Print a Centerpiece!
A framed printable can also help you create a centerpiece. I’ve used several over the years. Add a pretty nest and a few bunnies and you’ll have a centerpiece that will automatically draw the eye.
You can create a whole scene around your favorite. Peter has been very busy painting eggs!
Of course the backside of the frame will need a lift as well. Add a bunny, bird’s nest, or a spring plant to make that side of the table pretty too!
Once you have your centerpiece, you can easily build a whole tablescape around it. Who wants chocolate?
Light It Up!
If you feel your centerpiece needs a little height, try adding branches to a pretty vase filled with eggs. If you have a long table, a higher focal point is always a good idea.
Faux eggs come in just about every color so choose those that best fit in with your theme. Adding a strand of fairy lights to your branches brings a little magic to the table.
Your favorite lantern decked out with candles or any light up element is another way to bring a little ambiance to an evening celebration.
Candles, whether faux or real can make all the difference in the world!
Dessert First?
A pretty dessert tray can make a great centerpiece as well. I wonder how many times the kids would have to be told they need to eat their dinner first though???
Still, it sure is pretty? Filled with chocolates, marshmallows, and some pretty pastel macaroons… now that’s a centerpiece!
A Little Something Extra
Depending on your theme, it’s always a nice touch to add a little something extra to each place setting. It can be as simple as a chocolate egg or a gift that will last a bit longer.
Last year, I found the prettiest teacups while thrifting. I bought them for a song, picked up a 6 pack of pansies, and they were quite the hit!
The bright colored flowers were just so pretty all by themselves. But… never one to let well enough alone, I created tags from some of my printables and added a little bird to every cup. (The tags cannot be found in the Printable Library but rather in a DIY post from last year. They are available to everyone by clicking here. )
Attaching decorative eggs to the napkins at each place setting is very pretty too.
Still another pretty, inexpensive, option is to place a small bunny on each plate.
