Colorful Thanksgiving Tablescape

Thanksgiving is such a wonderful holiday. It’s centered around faith, family, and friends. Well… and food of course! With that in mind, a pretty table is always the focal point when guests arrive. I decided to put together my favorite colorful Thanksgiving tablescape to share with you today.

I have no idea what the holiday will be like at my house this year. One thing I am certain of however, it will look a lot different from celebrations in year’s past. But…the meaning of the holiday will stay the same. That is where my thoughts are today as I put my table together.

I love everything about this holiday. Likewise, I love everything about the fall in general. I always say that my favorite adjectives to describe this season are warm and welcoming. Another word that springs to mind is colorful. I try to make sure my Thanksgiving table reflects all three.

Choosing A Base

Choosing my brown tablecloth as a base allows me to add just about any color I want. Since I will be using my gold cutlery, I’ve added a runner of gold leaves as well. At this point I can go fancy or casual. Gold normally suggests a more elegant setting. However, I’m adding in gold for the color more than any polish it might bring. My ultimate goal is a semi casual look so adding my natural woven placemats will be perfect for the season we are in.

Colorful Fall Settings

I have accumulated dishes for almost every season over the years but I have to say that my fall settings are really my favorites. There are so many color combinations I can use and that makes it so much fun to put together for special occasions. Today I am combining all of them for a colorful Thanksgiving tablescape that I feel will encompass the very essence of the fall season.

Gold cutlery

Mixing and matching each place setting brings the colorful aspect of fall in instantly. Since by Thanksgiving in Colorado, the weather is quite cold normally, the first course has always been a soup or a chowder. Rather then staying uniform for each place setting, I will continue with my colorful theme throughout.

Creating A Fall Centerpiece

The gold cutlery is perfect! With each new added element, the colors of fall take hold. The warm and welcoming aspect will need to be brought in by the centerpiece.

To create the centerpiece, I am starting with my favorite pillars. I prefer real candlelight on a holiday table and the pillars burn inward. That makes them safer than tapers if a little one is at the table. Candlelight is such an easy way to bring warmth to the table.

Creating a fall centerpiece

A few faux branches, my favorite Thanksgiving sign, dried corn, pumpkins and gourds and it’s done. The harvest is complete!

Grateful, Thankful, and Blessed

Besides the dishes, my fall napkin rings add so much to the colorful Thanksgiving tablescape I’m creating. I feel that we are almost there. We have the color. I think we have a warm and welcoming atmosphere. But what I want to accomplish above all else, is for all of us who gather here to take the time to think about what is really important in our lives.

Not one to be subtle, I decided not to leave that to chance. With some wooden leaves I found in my craft box, I made sure. I printed the words which I consider to be the very meaning of the holiday. Grateful, Thankful, and Blessed. I taped one to each leaf and added them to each place setting.

I added the printable I created to a side table just for good measure! You can find your own copy in the Library.

Sharing Thanksgiving Thoughts

If by some miracle, the numbers in Colorado go back down, and we are able to gather with family and friends for the holiday, I have a plan. I will ask everyone to choose a seat where the word best describes what they are feeling that day. My goal is that they will think about the words, their feelings, and will share them with us all. I will take whatever seat is left because for me, they all apply.

Even in this awful year we find ourselves in, I still have many reasons to feel grateful, thankful, and blessed.

Grateful that at this moment my family and friends are safe and healthy, as am I. Grateful!

Thankful that the time at home has given us such an unexpected gift. Time slowed down enough for us to really appreciate our time together as a family. Not just on a holiday but on each and every day. It has brought us all closer together. Thankful!

Blessed because in a very short time, I will have both my kids at home. Katie is coming for Christmas! Although we went to see her not that long ago, having both of our children safe in our home at the same time is worth everything to me. If only for a little while. Blessed!

Prayers

I am saddened that for so many in this country, Thanksgiving this year will be such a tough one. My heart breaks for everyone who has lost a loved one to this awful and relentless virus. I pray that you will find a way to navigate through the holidays somehow. The firsts are so hard to bear! I will pray everyday that you find peace and that next year at this time, you will once again feel grateful, thankful, and blessed.

Thanks so much for coming by today. So glad you found your way to My Home of All Seasons.

  1. Such a fabulous tablescape. You have quite the eye for details Denise. The table mat, the center piece and the napkin rings – all very well coordinated.
