Decorating Ideas for a Cozy Winter Kitchen

With the kitchen being the heart of the home, a cozy winter kitchen is the focus here. I’ve got some great decorating ideas to help you accomplish just that!

I have to admit, I definitely have a love/hate relationship with winter. I appreciate the beauty of it but I dread the cold weather. So every year I try to bring what I love about the season inside, where it’s warm. I especially love a cozy winter feel in the kitchen.

Since our home is a two story with a walkout, the kitchen window views are of the backyard trees. When they are covered in snow, it is absolutely gorgeous. It’s a little like living in a treehouse and I love it!

I always make a point of keeping out the little trees that I use in my miniature Christmas village each year. They tend to be the base for all of my winter decorating efforts especially here in the kitchen. I will put them just about everywhere. Above the cabinets, on the counters, on the shelves, and in all of my tiered tray designs.

Winter Cocoa Bar

Since I’m not quite ready to say goodbye to the cocoa bar, I’ve given it a refresh for the winter season. Out with the red, in with white!

The tiered tray here has become more decorative than useful this season as well. The hot chocolate toppings have been moved inside the cabinet again. Still handy for an occasional cup but for the most part, I am back to my regular coffee routine.

White Winter Elements

With a mountain theme working in the rest of the house, I made a small sign for this tray. The Bear Creek Mountain Lodge Warming Station is open and ready to serve!

The tiered tray that is a constant on my island also got a winter refresh. The greenery from Christmas stays but the red elements have been replaced with white substitutes.

Trees are added to the greenery that was the base of the Christmas tray. A little white house took the place of the red church that was the focal point last month. I’ve kept the Christmas mouse out for another season along with a little squirrel. I added a small sign here as well.

A Few Winter Touches to the Counters

I always seem to go overboard in this room during Christmas Time. There are just so many cute Christmas kitchen accents! When I change things over to winter, I do my best to tone it down. I still take advantage of the space above the cupboards but I add very little decor to the counters. Just a few winter touches here and there.

I swap out the Christmas wreath with a gray winter berry substitute to sit on the side of the window. I added a buffalo checked deer to the opposite side for balance.

The kitchen is the perfect place to display a decorative plate or two. They are such an inexpensive way to add a festive feel for any season.

Winter Breakfast Table

Breakfast is the only meal that we will actually eat at a table this season. I think it’s the proximity to the coffee station! Dinner and a movie in the family room has become a thing since the arrival of Covid. Still, a pretty winter table is appreciated.

A quick change of plates and the addition of some black mitten utensil holders and the breakfast table is ready!

A warm and cozy vibe has arrived in the kitchen! My work here is done!

I don’t really decorate now per se. But I do like to see what others have done.

Nice. Did you do your own cabinets? I like the finish on them.

    God bless!

I think it’s all the sunshine Colorado enjoys that make the winters better. I grew up near Lake Erie and the sun made only rare appearances through the winter. This is much better! Thanks again and have a wonderful week.
