Decorating with lanterns gives you such a great tool for your seasonal home. If you want to, you can put in one pretty candle and be done! There are times during the year that I have done just that and it was enough. But decorating with lanterns for spring can be much more versatile than that!
Ok. No…I have not checked everything off my spring cleaning list! However, while doing my windows yesterday, I decided to clean out my lanterns too. So I’ve got that clean slate I’m always craving and they are ready to go!
Styling a spring lantern with flowers
There are just so many possibilities when styling a spring lantern. I was thinking of those possibilities while working on my spring cleaning checklist at the same time. With every intention of waiting until my checklist was complete, I was coaxed right out of that fantasy and I just have to start now! I mean… LOOK AT THIS BUNNY!!! On my way downstairs taking things to the garage sale box I swear I heard my name! I turned to look around and there she was! Convinced it was her wanting me to take her to her new home for the season… well I couldn’t just ignore her, could I? Of course not! So as much as I hated to stop what I was doing, I just didn’t have a choice! Consequently, I have to do some decorating with lanterns right now!
Lanterns are always prominent in all my seasonal displays and I know there is one that should make a great home for this little lady. I’m thinking this taller one might work perfect for her. It was full of snow and trees for the winter months so yesterday, I gave it good once over and it is ready to design. She is quite a good size rabbit so she will be the only element I use on the inside. I’m going to concentrate on the outside this time.
I will need some of the flowers from my faux collection to bring some “spring” to this lantern. It’s a bit narrow but it has the perfect top to add all the color that I can’t put inside. I think a floral swag will look great and it is such an easy thing to do, especially to use on a lantern. If we were making one to hang on the wall, then the flowers would need to be the same size and wrapped with floral tape. Since this will be on top of the lantern, I can simply pin them together with wire and tuck them inside of the lid.
It needs a bow as well. I’m going with a simple burlap bow since the flowers will bring all the color we need. The bunny of course is the centerpiece but depending on where I put this lantern, it may not be visible from all angles. To compensate for that, I will add this bird to the bow to make it interesting from anywhere in the room. This is now the perfect home for her!
This is now the perfect home for her!
I am nearing the end of my spring cleaning so I feel like I can take the time to do a bit more decorating. If my cleaning stays on schedule then full on spring decorating will happen this weekend! Since I have all my elements lined up downstairs and all my lanterns clean and ready to go, I think I’ll just keep plugging along!
The oddly- shaped lantern
Lanterns come in all sizes and shapes. That is part of the obsession I have with them. While a simply square or rectangular lantern may be the easiest to decorate, it’s the oddly- shaped ones that always tend to catch my eye.
This is probably my favorite of all. I loved it with it’s winter decor! And I really loved the lights inside. Therefore, I don’t think I’m ready to give that up yet. I found this little pot when I was putting away my winter bins. It held the last of my herbs last fall and never made it out to the shed. It’s perfect for what I have in mind. I will add a piece of floral foam to the bottom and fill it with flowers. Mini lights on green wire will let me keep the lights on for another season! I will add a bow to the outside and this one is finished!
Decorating lanterns with candles
I think we will do one more before finishing up spring cleaning. This is by far my largest lantern to date. A lot of space to do almost anything with yet it is so pretty as- is that I think we will keep it simple. It looked great with a candle set inside the other elements during the winter months so we will stick with that for spring as well. This is such an easy one to transition from one season to the next. I have more pictures of these lanterns and others in my home picture gallery.
So you see! Decorating with lanterns is just a must when you are going for a seasonal home! I fully intend to work on my others when my checklist is complete. I will do a few for the outdoors once we get a little farther into spring. It is way too early to think about that at this point. We have enjoyed several 60 degree days here in Colorado but there is snow in the forecast this weekend! Spring fever has hit me hard but I have been here long enough to know, we still have a long way to go!
I’m happy with my accomplishments today and I am determined to stay on schedule. Tomorrow is my final window washing day with Friday being a day for recuperation! But Saturday….that’s when the fun begins! I hope you’ll come back for a visit soon and see the changes that spring will be bringing to my home of all seasons!
In the meantime, check out my latest post The Spring Staircase and see what you can do at your house this year.
See you then!
