Create your very own Christmas Shadow Box Decoration that will become a family favorite for years to come. This quick and easy tutorial will show you how it’s done!
I love the saying “All Hearts Come Home For Christmas.” I believe it is so true.
I can still remember the first Christmas I missed with my family. It was a rough one and no amount of festivities could distract me. My heart just wasn’t in it. It was at home with all the people I love so much.
This year, I wanted to make that beautiful saying a part of my Christmas decor. The problem was, I couldn’t find what I was looking for. So… of course I made my own.

I started with some ornaments I found early in the season, the heart at Walmart and the door at The Dollar Tree. I don’t know what is like where you live, but the Christmas shelves at our stores are almost empty already! So… I’ve included links to some similar ornaments below. I think a little house would be cute to use in place of the door along with any style heart.
I made a chalkboard printable of the saying and I’m sharing it with you today. You can print it by clicking directly on the link.
I then bought a shadow box which I’ve linked below as well. The sign is based on using a square 9 x 9, 1-inch deep shadow box.
Supply List
9×9 shadow box
Free printable
Battery operated lights (20 to 30 count)
Glue gun
Double sided tape
Drill or a hammer and small nail
Heart ornament
Door or house ornament ( check out the links below)
Directions
Remove the back of your shadow box.
Print your free printable and trim it to fit. Use the double sided tape to attach it to the back.
Place your heart above the writing and center it there. Mark the top of the ornament on your paper.
Make a small hole through the back of the box and the printable. I used a hammer and nail.
Poke your lights through the hole and pull through, leaving the battery back in the back. Add your batteries and turn the lights on. It is easier to see where the lights will attach when they are on.
Using your glue gun, add a thin layer of glue to outline the heart. Take it slow and add the glue to an inch or two at a time.
Once your lights are attached, glue the entire heart to the spot you marked earlier.
Add a dot of glue to each corner on the back of your door ornament and glue it to the opposite side. Add any other embellishments you’d like. I added a few glitter snowflakes to cover up the holes left by the ornament hanger it came on.
Put the shadow box back together and tape the battery pack to the back.
The Perfect Spot
With your Christmas Shadow Box Decoration completed, all that is left to do now is to find the perfect spot to put it.
It looks so pretty on the kitchen counter! It could also hang on a wall, be the center of a tray, or fill in a spot above the cabinets. However, I decided to use it to decorate the ladder I change for every season. Stay tuned! I’ll share the finished look in a later post!
