Easy Patriotic Decor Ideas for the Fourth of July

This year, perhaps more than any other in recent memory, celebrating the Fourth of July is so important. Having just survived a worldwide pandemic, it seems appropriate to honor the country that got us through it. For me, that means decking out the house with patriotic decor and celebrating the holiday with friends.

Since I finished decorating for summer just last week, my plan was to simply add an accent here and there. That’s not quite how it ended up. You know what they say about the best laid plans!

Decorating for the fourth is just so much fun!  I have little use for red in my home except at Christmas even though it is such a pretty, vibrant color!  I discovered that I love bringing it out in the middle of summer so I might have gone a little overboard. Today, I thought I’d share some pictures that might give you some ideas for your own holiday decor.

Red, White, and Blue in the Kitchen

I love my summer lemon coffee bar so I just wanted to add a single patriotic decoration for the holiday. I had a pretty coffee tin that I purchased earlier this year. It seemed like the perfect thing to tie in some patriotic color. I arranged some red, white, and blue flowers inside, added a flag, and it looked so pretty on the shelf above the bar.

The problem was that to find the flowers I needed, I had to open up my bin labeled Fourth of July. I had forgotten how many cute decorations I had so stopping at that point just wasn’t going to happen! Finding red and blue coffee cups and so many cute little signs inside, before I realized it, I was well on my way to changing up the entire thing! So I went with it and here is the end result.

It was so much fun putting together the tiered tray on the coffee bar, that I decided to do a second one for the island. Patriotic decor can be centralized to a small area with the use of a tray.

Little American flags are a staple for holiday decorating. I tuck them in just about everywhere!

The kitchen is also our favorite brunch spot so the table is always set and ready. Putting together a patriotic table involved opening several different bins but it was worth it. White chargers from an Easter box, red plates from Christmas, and blue salad plates from a summer one. Navy blue napkins and rings I made from red, white, and blue pip berries and we’re done!

Fourth of July with a Coastal Flare

My summer decor in most parts of the house has a coastal look. Our love of the ocean is evident nearly everywhere. Since I am actually nowhere near the coast, I feel the summer months are the only time I can get away with a full on coastal home. Therefore, I am reluctant to change it even for the upcoming holiday. Instead, I will move a few things and add some patriotic accents here and there.

I kept my summer vignette on my coffee table basically the same and simply added a small flag there. Replacing a lantern with a blue star and red candle brought in more of a patriotic feel. The final touch here were some rustic blocks to represent fireworks.

The mantel was given a refresh using a banner, a sign and a few patriotic printables.

I made a few small changes to the sofa table as well being careful not to lose the coastal feel.

Next week I will be sprucing up our outdoor spaces for summer. In the meantime, I have already hung the new patriotic wreath I made for the front door. This was definitely the easiest one I have ever attempted by far. You can find the instructions and links to everything you’ll need to create one of your own by clicking here.

    1. Thanks so much Debbie! Of course I don’t mind and I am so relieved that you are pushing forward. I think 2020 took its toll on every single person in so many ways that are just now coming to light. I think it has all of us questioning choices we’ve made in the past, the importance of what we’re doing now, and where we should be in the future. Prayer and a little bit of soul searching will help us through. Maybe add a sprinkle of virtual friendships and you’ve got this! Thanks again and have a wonderful weekend!
