Eerie Elegance: Creating a Spooky Focal Point for Your Halloween Home

With Halloween just around the corner, it’s time to bring a bit of eerie elegance to our seasonal decor. Today I’m sharing a few ideas to help you create a spooky focal point in your Halloween home this year!

The focal point of a room is sometimes decided before we ever take up residence. Unfortunately, what draws the eye upon entering, is very often not at all what we hoped for. However, it’s that very truth that makes decorating such an addiction for me.

In our current home, our main living space is long and narrow. Coming through the front door, the first thing you notice are the recessed niches in the wall. With this design, we were somewhat limited when setting up couches, chairs, and tables. In addition, there was really only one workable spot for a television. No matter how you slice it, that is the main focal point of the room.

We enjoy several shows that we watch weekly so a TV in the room is a must. The problem is when it’s not being used, it becomes a big black eyesore that I absolutely loathe. With the decorator in me unable to accept that, I searched and searched and finally found a solution to the problem…

Seasonal TV Art

The ability to turn an ugly black screen into a piece of art has quickly become “a thing” for me. As you can see in several of my earlier posts this year, I use it often to bring the seasons into focus. Halloween has been especially fun!

I started with a great haunted house from YouTube. Every time I change the look, I get that same feeling as I do from a shopping spree to Home Goods! I’ve linked it here in case you want to give your own eyesore a holiday look.

Halloween Elements

With my “art” in place, I set about choosing elements for the console below to further bring the holiday to life.

I added a little Jack-o-lantern and staged it with an old witch hat that I had from years past.

The fall leaves from an autumn display bring a little bit of color to the design. They look great in the “witch is in” crock that was a gift from my son several years ago.

The final touch to the top shelf is a print from my 2024 Halloween collection. If you are a current subscriber, you will find it in the Printable Library along with several others. A flickering candle gives it a mystic glow.

While I couldn’t find a place on the table for him, this cute little ghost was a great addition to the nearby corner!

Pillows, Throws, and Signs

Pillows and throws are always a must for fall decor and as it turns out, they are a staple for Halloween as well! The pillow below gives a nod to the movie Hocus Pocus and of course the Salem Broom Co. sign is just adorable!

The bottom shelf also holds my favorite lantern. Light up pumpkins and Halloween picks reflect the season just perfectly!

The basket that sits by the table was quite easy to take from its normal fall motif to Halloween with just a change of throws and pumpkins.

I love the way the table came together! However, it can’t really represent the holiday until you… light it up!

The ability to change the picture on the wall with a single click is all part of the fun. You can find this spooky offering here.

I’ve linked several of the products that I used for this post below along with a few “I wish I had that” elements.
