How to Create a Winter Wonderland Centerpiece

Whether you love winter or hate it, it’s here. Putting the cold aside, it is such a beautiful season. Let’s create a winter wonderland centerpiece to celebrate that beauty!

The formal dining room will not be used again until Easter. We are just not a formal kind of family. Dinners most nights will be in the family room in front of the fire. With that in mind, I view the long formal table as a waste of space most days. So this year I decided to use it to create a winter wonderland centerpiece and maybe inspire you to do one of your own!

Finding the Perfect Base

I knew I wanted my centerpiece to have varying heights. My first thought was to find some of the display stands that I had used in my craft show days. I went to the storage room prepared to spend quite some time searching bins in my “save for the next garage sale” corner.

Lucky for me, I never needed to start that search. The bins are located right underneath the shelves that store everything I need for the annual Christmas party. Of course, the party stopped being an annual event quite awhile ago. Which explains why I had completely forgotten about the tiered dessert tray that is now my perfect base.

I do realize I didn’t need the stands or the tray to put this all together and neither do you. Risers or boxes would work just as well. However, I am like a dog with a bone when I start a project which really isn’t an admirable quality. Imagine the time I would save if I didn’t feel the need to follow my quest for the “perfect” that exists only in my own mind!

Anyways, the tray was absolutely beautiful filled with holiday treats and I saw no reason it wouldn’t be the same in this case.( Excuse the quality of this picture! This was the only one I could find with treats. Probably taken with the first iPhone ever made!)

This time, I will fill it with snow, trees, and some candlelit tin houses that are always a part of my winter decor somewhere in my home.

Creating the Tiers

Now that I’ve found my base, the rest will be incredibly easy. Everything I need is readily available. All are a part of my Christmas decor that I didn’t pack away in anticipation of winter.

I’ll start by adding some greenery around the base.

I’ll add faux snow to each of the four plates along with trees of various styles and sizes.

From there, I’ll place the tin houses on the first and third tiers. The tallest, a lighthouse, can be set on the table itself.

Adding Winter Elements

Adding winter elements to my winter wonderland centerpiece really brings it to life. I chose a smaller version of the owls on my mantel to grace the chimney of one of the houses. In the winter months, I hear the owls in the evenings and looking outside, I often see their silhouette perched on my neighbor’s rooftop.

I also added a polar bear to the bottom tier. He looks so beautiful coming out of the trees!

Pretty frosted pinecones and a bit more greenery are called for as well.

To bring a little more soft light to the display, I added a few more tea light candles to a holder that blends in well with the scene. All the candles are battery operated with the timers set to come on at dusk.

And just like that… we have a beautiful winter wonderland centerpiece to enjoy all season long!

    1. Thank you Deb! I thought I’d given mine away too but it was still downstairs. That’s how disorganized I’ve been lately! I used to know exactly where everything was. I’ve started making notes for myself so that when I do give something away, I don’t spend days looking for it! Crazy! Thanks again for stopping by and all your kind comments. Take care my friend!
