Easter on a Tray Blog Tour

For those coming over from My Hubbard Home, Welcome! Rachelle is amazing, isn’t she? I’ve always admired her quiet, classic, style. Her tray is simply gorgeous! Thank you for the inspiration Rachelle!

Easter Confectionary Tray

If you’re hosting Easter at your house this year, you have probably fine-tuned your menu already and it’s perfect! But just in case that gorgeous bunny cake you saw on Pinterest doesn’t look quite like the picture, I’ve got a fast and easy solution. Let me show you how to quickly style a pretty Easter Confectionery Tray that will save the day!

(No! Don’t throw out the cake! I’m sure it tastes good even if it vaguely resembles a gargoyle of some kind. Maybe just hide it for now. You can enjoy it with your family later along with a good laugh. You will most likely need to put on your big girl pants for that one though. Unless you’re married to a saint, there will be endless teasing ahead! Yes… this is experience talking!)

Choosing Confections and Containers

First, send your significant other to the store with instructions to purchase whatever Easter candy remains on the shelves. In a real emergency, you might need to do a little bargaining with the kids. ( If mommy can borrow that chocolate bunny, I’ll replace it with a bigger one tomorrow! – or – If you share your jelly beans today, you can have ice cream for dinner for a week! ). Desperate times and all!

Seriously though, creating a confectionery tray complete with a wow factor is as easy as pie. (Speaking of pie, do you have one??? Slice it into squares, put a little chocolate egg on top of each one… gorgeous! Just a thought! ) But truthfully, almost anything works here. Jelly beans, marshmallows, malted eggs, all a good choice. Macaroons are pretty for any occasion and of course, you’ll need those peeps too. Add in a few chocolate bunnies and you’re all set!

Because Easter candy is quite colorful on its own, the containers used to hold all the goodies are secondary. Their placement on the tray is much more important. Using risers here and there and varying sizes of plates and bowls creates a pretty picture and maximizes the space.

Choosing a Base

There are several things that can be used as a base to build upon. A lace doily or a pretty tea towel works great on a flat tray. Easter grass or moss mounded on a deep, round, tray makes for a gorgeous end result. A tiered tray works best with picks or sprays of greenery placed here and there.

I’m using a tiered lazy susan style tray. This will allow everyone easy access to all the treats. on the tray. But that also means each side will need to be pretty! After arranging the plates, cups, and bowls, I used green picks of various kinds as a base. The next step will be to add a little “cuteness” to the tray.

A Little Bit of Cuteness Goes a Long Way

Once you’ve added your greenery and confections, it’s time to bring in the cuteness factor. The chocolate bunnies go a long way towards accomplishing that but they tend to quickly disappear. To keep the tray looking pretty as the treats are consumed, you’ll need to add a few finishing touches.

The front of the top tier holds a pretty little sign and the sweetest bunny ever. Of course a pretty bow is always a must. The strawberry chocolate bunny looks adorable here for the moment. But… prepare yourself! Someone will take an ear off sooner rather than later. That’s the whole idea though so be sure to have a replacement piece ready.

The flip side brings a burst of color with a faux cabbage and an orange twine egg. In keeping with my quest for cute, I added some tiny decorative bunnies. One seems intent on devouring the cabbage all by himself!

The larger bottom tier offers the bulk of the treats. A few more brightly colored twine eggs and some pretty bunny napkins completes the little bit of cuteness I was looking for!

From this point on, all that is left to do is to keep your willpower in check! No??? Just me? I do LOVE Easter candy! Tip… a half eaten Easter Confectionery Tray will lose some of the wow factor. For the moment, mine is safe.

    1. Thank you MaryJo! I hope part of it will still be here on Sunday! I’m practicing my willpower techniques but sadly, my husband and son have not. Great touring with you and I wish you a beautiful Easter!

  5. So perfect for Easter Denise, 2 tiers of bunnies and Easter treats! I love how you created different levels on the tiers, and the way you tucked in greenery…the teacup full of candy is very cute and I love the peeps lined up in the pretty rectangular dish 🙂

    1. Thanks so much Jenna! That tray doesn’t have a prayer of looking the same on Sunday. Things seem to be disappearing at an alarming rate! I’ve asked my husband about it but he pleads the fifth every time. Oh, at least I have pictures! Happy Easter to you!

  6. Denise, I’m only 1/4 of the way through your post and laughing my head off! Cakes gone wrong, and bargaining with kids for their stash makes you a bonifide blogger! I totally get how you feel when people start to eat your work of art. Your tray is so darn cute you want to keep it around for just a bit longer. Thankfully you and everyone else can look back at your lovely photos 🙂
    Happy Easter Hugs,
    Rachdelle

    1. Thank you Rachelle! I keep noticing things on the tray seemed to move around during the night. I’m pretty sure the chocolate bunnies have already been replaced at least once. Maybe the mystery could be solved if my hubby would agree to get on the scale! Wishing you all a beautiful Easter!

  7. Denise, your tray is full of beautiful Easter goodies. You chose well!
My husband’s sweet tooth would have him visiting a tray of sweets each time he passed by. If I style something for a post, I have to tell him “Off Limits till you get the OK.”
    Happy Easter!

  8. Oh, my goodness. Your tiered tray is so pretty. I did a tray with food for Easter.. sweets, that is. Pinning your images for Pinterest. Have a great Easter, Linda @Craftsalamode.com

    1. Thank you Sandra! There is no doubt in my mind that the first piece will be consumed by my husband. I can only say “that’s for the guests” so many times!

  9. This is such a cute idea, Denise. How fun to have an adorable decorative tray that’s edible! I love chocolate eggs. My inner chocolate loving kid is still around so the pretty goodies probably wouldn’t last long! Have a wonderful Easter weekend!

    1. Thanks so much Debra! Chocolate is my weakness too. I’ve been avoiding that tray with all the willpower I can muster! Thanks for stopping by and have a beautiful Easter!
