With everything happening in the world today, sometimes you just need to step back. Sometimes, the words of someone else, spoken long ago, can resonate so profoundly today. Inspirational quotes can lift you up in a way that nothing else can.
Make the most of today
One of my favorite quotes is from Mother Teresa. These days, it is so hard not to look back and see what’s been lost in the past 6 months. It’s equally as hard not to look towards tomorrow and hope things are different. This quote reminds me just how futile that is. It reminds me that although today is different, it is a gift. I need to take this day and make the most of it.
Leave it to Mother Teresa to give me the kick in the pants that I needed to move forward today! That being said, remembering the moments that made you so happy is important too!
Amazing Moments
At this point of the summer any other year we would be in the middle of a vacation. This year that would have involved a trip west and a long awaited visit with our daughter. If she had to move away from home, I’ll be forever grateful that she moved to the coast. Really, it was inevitable. California has always been a second home to us. It was really no surprise that she made a beeline to the ocean once she was old enough to go off on her own. I firmly believe she was a mermaid in another life!
We passed our love of the sea onto her and as much as I miss her, I know she is exactly where she needs to be. Nothing is as peaceful to me as simply watching the waves roll in and out. She spends much of her free time doing just that and finds her peace there as well.
Another person I find such inspiration from is Maya Angelou. She is responsible for so many amazing inspirational quotes that have touched my soul. This one I love the most.
A version of this, hangs on the wall in my family room. I found it in a little shop on the pier at Pacific Beach. It means so much to me because there have been so many of those moments through the years. Since I cannot see the ocean waves from where I sit, it’s the memory of those moments that gives me peace today.
Simple Pleasures
It’s funny that all the quotes that seem to comfort me these days were all spoken by women! Another that I find so inspiring today is from Laura Ingalls Wilder.
This could have been said by someone yesterday and it would have applied. The shut down was/is so hard on everyone. It’s hard to find words that can describe the intensity of the feelings we are all experiencing.
The loss of life is incomprehensible and my heart breaks for everyone who has lost a loved one. The gratitude I feel for our healthcare workers and first responders is immense. The people that we’ve always taken for granted are now considered essential workers and I will appreciate them every day going forward.
The simple pleasures in life, home, family, love…mean more today than ever before. This is where we will find the courage we need to get through this.
More Inspiration
Things have definitely gone wrong this year and we all need to find the courage to see it through. Someday things will return to normal or some semblance of normal. But until that time we need to live each day to the fullest, take strength from the moments that take our breath away, and be happy with the simple pleasures of life. If inspirational quotes are not enough to lift your spirits. I have something else that might!
