Quick and Easy Fall Door Decoration

With the weather being gorgeous these days, I like to leave my back door open. But…that creates a problem! My kitchen is decked out with all things fall and with the door closed, my pretty fall calendar completes the look. With it open, it looks bare in an otherwise fall oasis. Can’t have that! I needed a quick and easy fall door decoration.

At one point, I had a leaf covered wreath with a cute tin rooster on the door. I made it years ago and have used it faithfully every autumn. While I am not quite ready to let it go yet, I needed a change.

Fall Door Basket

I had this cute basket with fall colors and decided this was it! This would be my quick and easy fall door decoration. After gathering a few items together, I’m ready to go.

I bought some dried oats at the beginning of the season. I knew I would need them at some point! It turns out today’s the day.

Unless I’m making a gift for someone, I make everything in a way that allows me to change it numerous times. Dried oats are very fragile so simply placing a bunch in a basket will never do. Dividing the package into three bundles tied with twine will keep them centered for the most part.

Because I know this basket will be a part of my kitchen, I wanted to add a little bit of buffalo checked accents to tie it all in. I am a bit obsessed with black and white buffalo checked everything. I made my kitchen curtains about 6 years ago and to date, I have not tired of them. Since I’m working on a fall basket, finding buffalo checked leaves in my crafting supplies was so exciting. I will simply glue the leaves to a piece of twine with my glue gun and tie it around the basket.

A few fall picks and a pretty gold bow and we’re done! Oops! Lets add a pine cone with the glue gun to cover up the twine. Yes, that’s better!

Hmmmm. It does look kind of cute on the counter! But…I started this with the intention of hanging it on the door so that is what I will do.

If you like this pretty fall basket…you can recreate it with your own twists in less than 10 minutes! Here are the supplies you will need and the links to purchase them:

    1. Thanks so much Donna! I hope you get your black cabinets. I wanted them too when we updated our kitchen but I was afraid in my house it might make the kitchen too dark. I would love to see yours when they are done. I’ve seen such pretty black cabinets in model homes these days.
