Simple Hot Chocolate Bar

While I would never give up my coffee bar on a permanent basis, we are about to enter that time of year when hot chocolate often becomes the beverage of choice in this house. So… I thought I would put together a simple hot chocolate bar to share with all of you!

With so many cute cocoa related items out there, a hot chocolate bar is as popular as ever. If I was putting one together for an actual party, my Kuerig would be replaced with a homemade hot chocolate in a pot or dispenser. But for us, throwing a hot chocolate pod in the coffee maker is just as good in a pinch!

Create the Look

Hot Chocolate Toppings

My tiered tray holds most of the toppings. Crushed peppermint, chocolate chips, and coconut are a few of our favorites and I always keep flavored spoons on the bar for an especially lazy day.

Candy canes are a must as well. Every one loves to add mini marshmallows and sprinkles bring a little bit of pretty to any whipped creme topped cup. For a party I would make homemade whipped creme because there is nothing better but a few dollops of Reddi Whip works for us most days!

I am not big on flavored coffees most of the year but I make an exception at Christmastime. I always have a good selection for a snowy morning when a plain old cup of coffee just won’t do!

Spike it!

There are also some wintery nights when a stronger cup of cocoa is in order. For those times, a shot of peppermint schnapps, buttered rum, or amaretto fits the bill. For a true chocolate lover, there is nothing better than adding a little Godiva Chocolate Liqueur! Irish Cream or Kahlua are great additions too. Since a big Christmas mug full of a spiked drink is probably not the smartest idea, I’ve added some fun Christmas glasses to the bar for those occasions.

Gotta have those Signs

To make it extra cute, a few of my ever present signs are just the thing. Since it is a hot chocolate bar now, I thought I would frame my favorite homemade recipe as well. Poor Mrs. Claus! Her name is used so often this season. Mrs. Claus’ Christmas Cookies, Mrs. Claus’ Gingerbread, so why not hot chocolate?

And there you have it! A simple hot chocolate bar to take you through the season! I have added Mrs. Claus’ recipe to the printable library should you decide to do one yourself. The toppings labels are there as well. As a member, click here for the library, enter your password, download and print. If you haven’t joined us yet, please do!
