It seems like only yesterday that I took you all on a walk through my hometown of Parker, Colorado. In fact, it was December, 2020 and I wanted to show you how pretty it was with Christmas lights and snow. Today, I’m inviting you once again to join me for a stroll through town on a beautiful Colorado summer day.
I love our Colorado summers! We can certainly get some hot days but there is normally a quick cool down as the afternoon fades away. Beautiful blue skies and amazing sunsets are a staple this time of year.
Parker has fought hard to maintain the feel of an old west town. So far it has succeeded although it is growing by leaps and bounds. On a light traffic day, I can be in the heart of Denver in 20 minutes. Still, walking down Main Street today, the big city seems light years away.
O’Brien Park
The main gathering place for those who live here is always O’Brien Park. On the corner of Parker Rd. and Mainstreet, it is always full of activity. Many special events throughout the year happen right here. Concerts, Art shows, picnics, and family reunions to name a few.
The playground has been updated a time or two since my kids were little but it brings back some great memories!
The park is quite large and although Parker is far from the little old western town it pretends to be, you can always find a spot for a picnic.
The gazebo here is a special place for everyone. I am guessing there is no one in town who hasn’t had a picture taken there at one time or another. It is a must stop for couples heading off to Prom, family Christmas card photos, or a romantic “We’re engaged” post.
Main Street
A stroll through town on a beautiful Colorado summer day feels a little like a step back in time. Although the shops and restaurants have all you could wish for today, the pretty gaslights and yesteryear architecture gives it a Mayberry feel.
A stroll through town would not be complete without a quick stop at the Farmers Market. Held every Sunday through the summer months, it is something I look forward to each week.
Parker Art
Some of my favorite sights in Parker are the bronze statues you’ll find around town. They are absolutely gorgeous! Since a big part of Parker is considered “Horse Country” this beautiful Carol Cunningham sculpture, appropriately named That’s My Baby, is perfect for downtown.
This Don Budy sculpture is a memorial for Dr. Walter Heath who was Parker’s first town physician.
One of the newest additions is so gorgeous. It is dedicated to Nancy Gripman who was the co-founder of the Parker Task Force and a Master Gardener. Her community service to the town is legendary.
Pike’s Peak Drive
Right off Main Street, there are many historical sights to be seen. One of the prettiest is a little house that was built in 1911 by a French Rancher and his wife. She lived in the home until her death in 1967 when the Town of Parker declared it a landmark.
At the moment, quite a few other historical homes are undergoing much needed renovations so I will save them for another time.
Pikes Peak Drive is also home to several local businesses. To keep the nostalgic feel of the area, the new buildings were done in a victorian style.
I have so much more to show you but I will wait until our next stroll this fall. We will end today at the Ruth Memorial Chapel. Built in 1912, it is a historical landmark that is now a popular wedding venue.
I’m so glad that you joined me today and I hope you’re enjoying a beautiful summer day in your hometown! I enjoyed the stroll through Parker. I love to see Mayberry-like towns thriving.
Thank you Rita. Parker tries to keep that little town vibe but it’s growing in leaps and bounds. I’ve loved all the additions they’ve made so far though so fingers crossed! I hope you’re having a wonderful summer! Thanks for stopping by.
