The Unexpected Green: Adding a Fresh Twist to Fall’s Classic Colors

Choosing your color palette for fall can be daunting. So many choices! Will you go with the traditional reds, golds, and orange? Are you favoring the popular farmhouse style with muted browns, creams, or gray. Can you throw convention to the wind and bring in your favorite shade of purple? Well of course you can. For me, I’m going green!

This is the time of year when I find myself scrolling through the hundreds of fall photos on my phone, in magazines, and on the internet. I’m searching for inspiration from Mother Nature to start my fall decorating. I found that I’m drawn most often to the pictures taken early in the season. That special time when the grass is still green and the trees are just beginning their transition. How absolutely breathtaking!

That’s when I realized what has always been the missing commodity in my fall decor, that splash of green. This year, I made a point of including the color in a big way. I love the end result!

Choosing a Focal Point that Captures the Season

With my homesickness still very much a part of my life, I’ve been bracing for the fall season. I know it will hit me hard this year. With that in mind, I decided to make my focal point for the season a beautiful evergreen abstract.

Abstracts offer the chance to add your imagination to the canvas each time you gaze at it. I see the leaves on the trees in the forefront changing. The shadows depict an autumn sky with the light beginning to fade a little earlier each day. Most importantly to me… I see home.

It feels so familiar. Like a place I’ve seen a hundred times. I don’t know the inspiration for this canvas. Could it be this?

This scene will take us through the fall, the holidays, and beyond.

Is Green a Fall Color???

I might have been a bit unsure of the answer to this question before. However, a few hours into my decorating journey, my definitive answer is absolutely!

My chosen canvas made it so easy to bring in the color with pillows and throws. It contrasts beautifully with the different shades of orange that are so much a part of the season.

Mixing and matching fabrics and textures brings a certain depth to the designs.

Cozy Fall Fireplace

Fireplaces create a focal point all on their own. But decked out for the season… wow!

The canvas above the fireplace is a mix of several neutral colors. Shades of brown, grays, and cream. By layering the mantel with garland and stems that offer a preponderance of green, it ties in perfectly with the rest of the room.

A string of lighted balls in a copper mesh finished things off.

It’s All in the Details

The old saying “It’s the Little Things that Mean the Most,” is not just true in life. It’s paramount to making a house a home. Those small details that separate your house from the same model down the street are so important.

A basket here, a bowl there, a candle or two, that’s all you need right? All perfectly acceptable accents. But who really wants to be acceptable when they can be exceptional instead?

A nice basket always looks pretty in an unused corner. But add a throw, a pillow, and your favorite pumpkin, and that pretty basket becomes a statement of sorts.

Frame those pretty fall printables and make them your own! You’ll find these and many more in the Printable Library.

Wooden bowls, pedestals, and trays bring a certain warmth to the room.

I love velvet pumpkins and there are so many pretty colors!

Candles are a must for a cozy feel. I am never content to simply put a candle in a candle holder and call it good. It’s much more fun to create a design with the elements of the season.

Finally, don’t forget to add a beautiful fall framed picture to your smart tv! Much prettier than a black screen, don’t you think? So easy! Message me and I’ll talk you through it.

And… that’s a wrap! I think a touch of green will always be a part of my fall decor in the future.

    1. Thanks so much Rita! We miss him terribly. Arizona is a gorgeous state but we are still unsure if dealing with the heat is better than dealing with the snow! Stay tuned on that one! I’m hoping to get over for a visit soon. I’ve been wondering what’s happening in your world lately. I feel like I’ve been out of touch for so long now! Thanks for checking in. See you soon!
