What Can You Do With a Bag Full of Lemons? Decorate!

Today, I’m checking in to make sure you have all you need for the summer season ahead. Plants? Flowers? Gardening tools? Bag of lemons? What you ask? What can you do with a bag full of lemons? Well… decorate of course!

Like most days, this morning found me anxiously awaiting the Amazon truck. I know, I know! It’s a sickness really! However, today my husband was waiting too. Much to his chagrin, the box that arrived did not have his new drill bits inside. Instead, it contained my much anticipated bag of faux lemons!

Disappointment aside, he was totally mystified by the contents. “What are you going to do with a bag full of fake lemons?” (After all these years, he is still under the impression that everything we purchase is the result of a well thought out plan.) Wanting to keep his illusions alive awhile longer, I told him I had an amazing plan for a lemony summer kitchen. It would be magazine worthy for sure and he would absolutely love it!

Up until this point, I hadn’t really decided on my theme for the new season. My last post, A Kitchen Full of Summer, had me pulled in so many different directions. Berries, bees, herbs– all great summer kitchen ideas. But now, since he was the one to open the box, I would definitely need to go with my “plan.” I mean, of course I have a plan! How crazy would it be if I had ordered the lemons just to have for a rainy day? Never! That’s not how we do things around here! So I went to work creating the picture I’d promised!

When Life Gives You Lemons…

As with every season, I started with the coffee bar. The lemons here bring such a sunny, happy, vibe first thing in the morning.

I had quite a few lemon signs from year’s past and ok, I might have added a couple more this year too. ( I am prepared to deny that with gusto! ) Signs add so much despite what that Progressive commercial says!

This cute little tin was the perfect place to add a few of the lemon branches that arrived today as well.

Of course, I am convinced it’s the tiered trays that always pack the biggest punch. Combined with a mini scale, assorted greenery, and a few cute lemon accents, it really completes the picture.

A Touch of Blue

This year, I decided to add a little bit of another favorite theme to my second tiered tray. Blueberries!

It’s amazing how realistic faux fruit looks these days. I think the pail filled with blueberries look as real as if I just left the patch! They will be a great addition when I change things over for the Fourth of July too!

Summer Breakfast Table

Starting the morning in a bright, cheerful, kitchen sets the tone for a great day. The breakfast table is set and lemon ready!

Lemon Everything

Once I decided on the theme, of course I totally embraced it. I added a lemon tree to the island vignette and filed up the bowl on the scale.

I changed out the dishtowels and the fillable lamps, lemon drops in one and a lemon branch in the other.

A wreath I made a few years ago still works on the back door.

I placed another wreath with yellow accents on the stand by the window.

I was very happy with the end result! My summer lemony kitchen “plan” came together beautifully! I’m really hoping that I’m the one to answer the door when the faux cherries arrive for the Fourth!

  4. This post had me chuckling from the start, with the conversation you had with your husband on the delivery. The Progressive commercial cracked me up (I’m in Dr. Rick’s camp), That said, you did a fabulous job of using the bag of lemons for your summer decor, signs and all. I agree that faux today is fabulously more realistic than those of years past. I just wish they could take that plastic smell away and make that even more realistic! Have a wonderful summer, Denise!

    1. Thanks Rita! I do still love my signs although there are now several in my “box a day.” It’s a goal of mine to get rid of a box a day this summer. The thought of packing up this house someday all at once gives me serious anxiety so I’ve started weeding now. With what is stuffed into every nook and cranny here, I’m about 20 years too late! So glad you came by and I hope you have a lovely summer!

  5. Your lemon printables are beautiful and your tiered tray is gorgeous. I love your decor. Thanks for sharing.
