5 Easy Tips for a Gorgeous Fall Refresh Outdoors

I love this time of year! It’s not too cold yet to enjoy time outside but the threat of heat stroke while you do is over! Today I’m sharing a few easy tips for a gorgeous fall refresh outdoors.

A Front Porch Welcome

We all want a warm and welcoming home to share with friends and family. With that being said, first impressions are so important. That impression is usually formed just outside your door. Creating a front porch welcome is exactly the way to accomplish that.

It’s always nice to actually say “Welcome.” Since our little Cooper has refused to stand there himself, I used a chalkboard replica in his place!

1. Showcase the Season with Fun, Fall, Elements

Whether your porch is large or small, adding a bit of the season here is so important. One of the first things that comes to mind when you think of the fall season is, of course, pumpkins!

This old metal basket is the perfect place to add a few.

2. Pick a Theme and Run With It

When the kids were small, the porch was always decked out for Halloween from October 1st through the night itself. There are so many fun spooky outdoor decorations! These days, I tend to celebrate the actual season rather than one night. Either way, choose elements that bring your theme into focus. For me, the scarecrows take center stage.

3. Shed Some Light on the Subject

All the elements you’ve used will make a pretty picture in the daylight hours. You’ll notice your guests will take a bit longer to announce they’ve arrived as they take it all in. However, part of the warmth you want to convey will come from shedding some light here and there.

For me, nothing is as welcoming as a warm, glowing, lantern and I will use several for my fall refresh outdoors.

You can also upgrade the lighting already in place with some corn stalks, swags, or garland.

I chose a fall basket instead of a wreath for the door as a final touch here.

These few simple tips will help you make the greatest first impression!

Cozy Fall Patio Refresh

This house is blessed with several outdoor spaces to enjoy for most of the year. My favorite has always been the lower level patio. Unlike the others, this is the space we can use from early spring through late autumn. Although it is not enclosed, it is covered and quite sheltered from the elements simply by it’s location.

4. Warm It Up

This is my morning coffee spot and despite the cooler morning temps this time of year, I’m just not ready to give that up! So with a few adjustments, I’ll continue to enjoy this space until the first snowfall.

Adding a pretty fall throw or two within easy reach will compensate for the chill in the air.

This space normally has quite a coastal look so I left the blues in place and added a few coordinating elements.

Afternoons are still quite pleasant and this is also the perfect spot to while away a sunny Sunday with a good book. Throw pillows help to make this space so comfortable as well.

Of course we need some pumpkins here too,

a cute little scarecrow,

and flowers!

For a final touch and for a little added warmth, candles and lanterns add to the ambiance just as they do for the front porch.

Dinner on the Deck

We rarely eat a meal inside during the summer and that is another thing I’m not ready to give up on. Although the nights will cool down a little faster this month, we will still do some entertaining here.

5. Bring in the “Pretty”

For me the “pretty” means flowers, flowers, and more flowers! I make sure they are plentiful in all my outdoor spaces. Since the deck is the spot for most of our outdoor entertaining, they are just essential!

They make such a pretty backdrop and on the nights when we have dinner guests, there are never enough!

Tonight’s dinner table is set with all the fall colors and the flowers coordinate with every setting.

A few pretty lanterns will make sure the deck will keep its seasonal feel long after the table is cleared.

I’m planning on enjoying my outdoor spaces for as long as I possibly can. It’s been a very dry year in Colorado so I’m hoping for a lot of snowfall this winter… just let me have October!
