Create a Spooky Entry Guaranteed to Bring a Smile

Halloween is on its way! With that in mind, today I’ll be doing a quick little refresh right inside the door. I invite you to follow along and we’ll create a spooky entry guaranteed to bring a smile.

Our house is on a cul-de-sac that is easy to miss if you don’t know the area. We never get a lot of traffic but that means we can spoil the ones who find us! Not only with a haul of candy that makes their night but we’ve come to be known as a warm up station as well.

Halloween is often quite cold in Colorado. It can be gorgeous weatherize the day before the holiday but drop thirty degrees on the night itself. I can remember answering the doorbell several times to little ones shivering on the doorstep with bright red cheeks. Huddled together with their parents, they were frozen but not quite ready to call it quits.

It was because of those miserable Halloween nights that a tradition was born at our house. Every year we make a big pot of homemade hot chocolate. We invite the parents and their little ghosts and goblins to come inside while we ready a cup to warm them up. So although my front porch is much more “fall” than Halloween, I make sure to create a spooky entry that they can enjoy while waiting on their beverage.

The Witch is In

Wishing to be completely upfront with our visitors, we let them know that “the witch is in.” The broomsticks hanging by the door implies there could be more than one, however, I can neither confirm or deny that assumption!

In addition to the broomsticks, we have several other warnings here as well.

Even the little ones who aren’t reading quite yet can see the many signs. The hat on the table just inside the door for instance. The signs are everywhere!

Be sure to watch your back! That witch is here somewhere! Oh Oh!

Birds, Spiders, and Bears Oh My!

Crows, spiders, and a spell book or two leave little doubt that something witchy is going on.

The witch hat clock shows 5 minutes to midnight. Who knows what will happen when the clock strikes the witching hour!

A large basket holding black and white pumpkins and a sign proclaiming the date is yet another reminder it is All Hallow’s Eve.

This trick-or-treater came last year, dressed as a bear. It might have been that a spell was cast and he’s frozen in time still clutching his pail full of candy!

Nonetheless, we are very welcoming here and we say so with a printable! (This printable is available to subscribers in the Library. The sign on the tree is blank. A fine-point sharpie is all you need to make it your own!)

The Halloween entry is now ready and waiting!

Oh wait! One more thing… a little bit of candlelight in the right setting goes a long way towards spooky!

I am anxiously awaiting my Halloween visitors and I hope they will not be disappointed with the decor! At the very least, I know they will love the treats. My ultimate goal is to make sure they leave smiling and with every last piece of candy too! My willpower is not what it should be!
