How to Create a Patriotic Summer Home (2022 Home Tour)

Summer brings so many ways to celebrate and build some wonderful memories. County Fairs, farmers markets, vacations, and of course, the Fourth of July! As I prepare for the holiday, I thought I’d share some ideas to help you create a patriotic summer home of your own this year.

The Fourth of July has always been a favorite holiday for me. Our annual Independence Day BBQ is something I really look forward to. Of course, it requires that I fill the house with a patriotic vibe that I love. This year, I thought I would wait until we we were all decked out for the party and combine it with my 2022 Summer Home Tour. So.. Welcome! Please come in and take a look around.

A Patriotic Welcome

Whatever the season or holiday we’re celebrating in our home, it’s important that you feel it the minute you step inside. Having two tables visible right through the door gives me a place to create a patriotic welcome for everyone.

I was going to decorate my little Cooper but it’s enough that he’s at the door to greet everyone. He does want you to know that he was the inspiration for my “Welcome” sign.

This time of year I love to bring a coastal feel to the house. I will keep that beachy vibe going until the fall so I simply add a patriotic touch here and there.

Fourth of July in the Kitchen

No matter what the occasion is, everyone seems to gather in the kitchen. With that in mind, this room needs more than just a touch of red, white, and blue. Since these are not colors that I normally display here, the Fourth of July in the kitchen requires a complete makeover.

Patriotic Tiered Trays

If you’ve stopped by before then you know I consider my tiered trays to be essential for any season or holiday. They are definitely a must for the Fourth.

Since this one is visible from all sides, It needed quite a few elements.

I know there will come a day when I’m no longer anxious to tear things apart for any particular day. When I look to the future and an eventual downsize, my trays will be the first thing in the moving van. Concentrating some festive decor on a tray is the easiest way to do a holiday refresh.

Red, White, and Brew Coffee Bar Refresh

Evenings in Colorado can be quite cool. Coffee (with a bit of Baileys) may be the drink of choice for sitting outside to watch fireworks. Therefore, the coffee bar got a holiday update!

My second tiered tray found a home here and I might have gone a little crazy with faux cherries this year!

A Few More Kitchen Touches

Changing the plate stacks on the breakfast table goes a long way in creating a patriotic feel.

Holiday Vibes in the Family Room

Although a BBQ suggests the outdoors, Colorado’s ever changing weather could lead to a quick move indoors. Adding some patriotic touches to the Family Room will ensure the holiday vibes continue rain or shine.

The mantel is always my go to for this room. Already decorated with a summer coastal theme, blue is very much represented here. Adding in a little red with a banner and a few printables is all that was needed. It will be a quick and easy change again when the holiday is over.

I added a few decorations to the tables in this room as well. As with the mantel, blue is my summer color and permeates the room. The pillows and throws meant to create a coastal feel, are transformed into a patriotic look with a few red accents.

The sofa table which also functions as a room divider between the Family Room and Kitchen is a main focal point. I left all the coastal decor but gave it a patriotic upgrade.

Holiday Lanterns

I couldn’t resist adding a few lanterns to my holiday decor! They always catch the eye and they are so much fun to design. I fashioned some red, white, and blue flowers into a swag, added a bow and some red candles to my tallest one. It quickly became a favorite.

It adds such ambiance in the evenings when the candles turn on.

Of course I love creating holiday scenes as well. This patriotic church is getting ready to host a BBQ for its parishioners!

Patriotic Printable Decor

Before our tour comes to a close, I want to share the easiest and least expensive way to decorate for the holiday. Patriotic Printables of course! I’ve used several of my own in my Fourth of July decor.

You might have noticed that I have been a little obsessed with bikes this year. I incorporated several metal miniatures into trays and lanterns for past seasons. I didn’t have a bike that I felt would work in this case so I created a printable series instead.
