Christmas is packed away and so is the welcoming atmosphere I had created on the front porch this year. It looks incredibly bare and overwhelmingly plain. Well, we certainly can’t have that!
First of all, I want to say how incredibly grateful I am to have last year’s winter porch featured in the latest edition of Country Sampler Magazine! Thank you so much!
Because of that, I felt it was okay to use the same design this year. I mean I skipped through the house for days yelling ” They liked my porch” at the top of my lungs first. Then I pulled myself together, bought 10 more copies of the magazine, and recreated the whole thing!
A Few New Winter Front Porch Additions
Of course then I started thinking…
You know I can never just leave well enough alone! Just a few little add-ons maybe?
Here Owl,Owl, Owl!
This time of year I am always on the lookout for the owls that seem to visit so often in the winter months.
Maybe if I put this pretty lady on the top of my lamp, she might just attract the real thing!
Why Yes! I’ll Take It!
I purchased this little tree at the end of the Christmas clearance sales at Hobby Lobby. I simply could not resist it for the price of $4.95. Besides, there was an empty table outside that needed something!
Just a Little Sign
Again, I had to have it right?
Last year’s welcome sign did not make it through the winter weather. I decided to simply reprint it with just a tiny upgrade. Who doesn’t need a buffalo checked snowman to greet you coming up the walk? Seriously, who?
Winter 2021 Reboot
The sign I made for the porch last year is seeing another season as is the lantern I love. ( You can see how the sign came to be in last year’s post here. )
I still love the milk can, greenery, and skates that I used last year too and saw no reason to replace them.
I had no desire to switch out my wreath either. Having found it on a great little blog I follow called The Navage Patch , I knew I had to make one of my own! Lucky for me, they had a great tutorial that made the process incredibly easy. I’m linking it here should you want one too!
One Final Touch
I’m happy with the new additions as well as last year’s offerings. Still, it felt like there was something missing from my warm and welcoming winter front porch. The lights and the lantern certainly brought in the warmth I was looking for. I was sure that the lamppost sign covered the welcoming part. But something was definitely missing.
Today I realized what it was. It was nothing I had forgotten and nothing I could fix. What was missing from my warm and welcoming front porch was the winter! That’s been taken care of…

Hi Denise, I am a long time Country Sampler subscriber. Read your ‘Stretch the Season’ story in the January 2022 issue and loved your winter front porch decor! I think we’re kindred spirits, as I’m also an avid seasonal decorator. Wondering where you got the cute little snowman sign with the broom that’s hanging on your lantern by the bow, and also the ‘there’s snow place like home’ mini sign tucked in your milk can greens. I have a large black lantern on my fireplace hearth that could use a small winter sign like either of those. I looked on Etsy, but didn’t find anything quite like what you have. The snowman sign was from the Christmas ornament aisle at Hobby Lobby a few years ago. I did notice a slightly different version there this year too but our stores have completely switched to spring here. The snow place sign I picked up at Walmart right before Christmas this year. Good luck with your search. If you can’t find a sign you like, a little pair of white mittens tied on your lantern with a pretty bow might be cute for now.Thanks again and have a wonderful week ahead!
Thank you Denise for your response. Little white mittens with a bow is a great idea too! Pretty sure our stores are stocking Valentines & spring decor now, too. About the time I finally get my winter decor in place, it’ll be time to transition to spring. But the fun is in the journey, right?! Another question for you… are your printables adaptable to 5 x 7 size? Looks like most are 8 x 10 or 8 1/2 x 11. I have quite the collection of seasonal printables too! Thanks Denise!
