We all love a decor piece that we can use all year long. That stand out piece that packs such a punch. Today I’m sharing some ideas on how to decorate a balance scale through the seasons.
With a downsize in our future, I am in the middle of weeding out my endless bins of home decor. Deciding what will make the cut is a painful process. Some pieces are treasured gifts from family and friends. Others are things I considered a “must have” at one time or another. While some were simply impulse buys. The latter is the easiest to part with, proving once again that avoiding those purchases is crucial!
I am planning a massive garage sale this spring. (Colorado subscribers I will let you know the dates!) One item that will definitely not be included there is a simple black balance scale that I purchased last year. Instead, it is kicking off my new Through the Seasons series.
Inspired by your overwhelming response to last month’s post, A Full Year of Tiered Tray Designs, we will focus on one home decor piece each month. The posts will include simple ideas for specific pieces that can easily move from one season to the next. With Christmas barely passed, we will start there. Red candles, lush candle rings, and an adorable Christmas nutcracker made for an easy holiday decoration.

Warm Winter Moods
There are so many great ways to decorate this farmhouse staple for the winter months. This year, I’ve decided to use mine as a centerpiece in the dining room. As such, I wanted to keep that element of light. Replacing the red ones with Led white glitter candles fit the bill for me.
A sparkling snowflake anchored to the top represented the season perfectly.
Another easy way to design a winter scale is to showcase the frosty elements of the season.
Spring – Bunnies, Birds, Nests
Decorating for spring is such a delight. The possibilities are endless! I came across these pretty ceramic eggs last year at the Dollar Tree. They were one of those impulse buys I vowed to suppress. However, I remembered the balance scale and realized how perfect they would be for my Easter table.
Birds nests are also the perfect fit for your spring balance scale.
Or… absolutely anything having to do with bunnies!
Summer Vibes
If you’re like me, I can’t get enough of those wonderful summertime vibes. Potted plants make a summer scale an easy decoration.
This season is a great time to go coastal as well!
This year, I am planning a repeat of my lemon mini scale but with much larger wooden bowls of the fruit.
Shades of Autumn
I love the vibrant colors of fall but last year, I wanted a more neutral look on the entry table.
I did move it midseason to the dining room and made a quick switch to add some color there.
Such a versatile decor piece! Depending on the design, a balance scale can mesh with almost any decorating style. Perfect for a farmhouse home, essential if you’re a true lover of the vintage look, but can easily work into a minimalistic, modern, look as well.
I’ve shared the latest version of my scale as well as a few other favorites below. This one time purchase will give you a treasured decorating tool for years to come! The links below will show several available online. (This is the first time I’ve seen the wired basket version and I absolutely love it. )
