How to Refresh Your Home with the Springtime Blues

I love this time of year! Everything outside is in a state of renewal. It seems only right that we get with the program indoors too! Come join me as I share a few ideas, photos, and links on how to refresh your home with the springtime blues this season.

Dusty rose has always been my go to color for springtime. It creates such a soft look for the season. What’s more, it’s so easy to find elements in various shades of pink to accent your choice.

I still love the rose but I wanted to switch things up a bit this year. I’ve always considered blue to be a summer color but it’s a favorite of mine so I thought I’d give it a try. My starting point today is what I consider the mantel.

Mantel Makeover With a Touch of Blue

I decided the spring picture that I’ve always used in this space will still work this year. Although predominantly green, there are several blue hues in the mountains and trees that can be brought out with a few blue accents.

To start, I used a twine and pip berry garland that I had on hand. I added a bit of greenery, one of my favorite DIY decorations (birds on a branch), and my large scrabble tiles that I just love!

Balancing a smaller canvas in such a large space is always a challenge. I opted to position my tallest lantern on one side and a beautiful green lighted topiary of the same size on the other.

Lanterns are always a great tool for a color revamp. I used a birch ribbon with a hydrangea blossom to showcase the color scheme.

A blend of tiny blue flowers and greenery are the perfect backdrop for the candles in the lantern. I added a bird’s nest to bring it further into the season.

This cute little bunny that I found in my spring stash takes his position near the lantern. The blue attire made him a great addition. His basket is filled with eggs of green, blue and white.

To showcase the blues on the opposite end, I brought out a springtime sign I did quite awhile back.

I first spotted this DIY decoration on pinterest years ago from the ThriftyParsonageLiving.Blogspot. I don’t believe she is still an active blogger but the tutorial she posted remains on line. Since her blog no longer shows as a “secure site”, I hesitate to add a link. However, the picture itself is a good guide for crafting a replica of your own.

I gave it a personal touch by adding an old music sheet for my backdrop and a pretty little bird. (The letters are simply vinyl stickers that I picked up at Hobby Lobby.)

I added a few blue battery operated candles as well to complete the look.

Blue Skies Ahead

Although I know there are blue skies ahead, the last gasp of winter is holding on tight. I still flip the switch on the fireplace every morning before coffee and a warm throw continues to be a big part of my wardrobe. However, I’m ready to change out the thick white blankets for a lighter knit version with a little bit of color.

I chose a blue farmhouse weave for one chair and a solid blue-gray bubble knit for another. ( I wouldn’t hesitate to use a spring green here either. Green and blue go hand in hand! )

Throw pillows further highlight the season.

Finding the Blues

Blue accents for spring are a little hard to find so you’ll need to get creative. Flowers are a great way to go. Blue hydrangea, faux or real, bring so much pop to any display.

Creating a spring vignette is the perfect way to use your blue blooms.

Printables are another way to bring in the blue. I’ve used a few of my own today and I’ve shared them all in the Printable Library.

Benjamin is new this year and he fit in perfectly with his blue shirt and gingham frame.

I used more of the pip berry garland for my spring ladder makeover.

And still more to frame the topiaries in the niches on both sides of the fireplace.

This garland has had many uses in the past. For years it covered the ugly bannister that we finally updated just last year. It also brought some “pretty” to the dining room chandy! I’ve definitely gotten my money’s worth with it’s endless versatility!

The garland went a long way towards highlighting a blue look this year. Still, you can never forget to add a little green for the season too!

In Conclusion…

All in all, I’m happy with my decision to do the springtime blues this year! It brings a certain sense of serenity to the season. While the Colorado weather cannot make up it’s mind outside, it is calm, warm, and cozy inside.

The best part about incorporating the springtime blues into your home… the transition into summer will be the easiest ever!
