Over the years I have accumulated many gorgeous Christmas decorations and I love them all. I’m as excited as a little kid on Christmas morning while unwrapping them from their year in storage! But then I look around and realize there are a few things that I just don’t want to put away for the season. My solution to that is simple…. just add a little greenery!
I have always been an end of the season shopper. Especially when it comes to Christmas items. While everyone is heading for the mall the day after Christmas, I am on my way to the craft stores. My focus is on the picks, ribbons, and garland that I’ll want for next year. The end result is there is never a shortage of faux greenery in this house! That makes it easy to turn just about anything into a new Christmas decoration.
Vintage Canister
I saw this little canister this fall at a barn sale and just had to have it. For the fall season it held a little pot of bright yellow mums. Since it is still so new to me, I was reluctant to pack it away when winter arrived. All it needed was a few of the picks I had on hand and there was no longer a reason to put it away!
Little Red Truck
This little truck held a candle and several miniature pumpkins just a few weeks ago. The truth is, I completely forgot about it when I was packing away my fall decorations. Due to its shape it was not something I could just throw into the top of a bin. I was not in the mood to repack everything so I decided to let it be. Although purchased for fall, it is also an easy leap to Christmas. I simply added some extra trees I had for my miniature Christmas village. I’m so glad I forgot to put it away!
Milk Can
I have always used greenery in my front porch milk can. There is no need to do anything but gather your longest stems and place them in the can. Just by virtue of its shape, the narrow opening will hold everything in place. To make it a little more festive, I added a pretty Christmas bow and a fun little sign. Be sure to check out my Signs of the Season post to see many more ways to use signs in your decor.
Kitchen Scale
A kitchen scale is one of those decorating elements that can change so easily from season to season. I leave it on my island year round. It was full of pumpkins for fall so this was a quick and easy change. Some greenery, pinecones, and a bundle of cinnamon sticks did the trick. Add a cute little snowman and we have a brand new Christmas decoration!
Candle Holder
Sometimes, adding a little greenery is nothing more than a pretty holiday pick you have on hand.
Vintage-style Tin
Often a pretty Christmas decoration can become even better just by adding some evergreen stems. That is the case with this pretty vintage tin.
Tiered Fruit Bowl
Literally anything can become a Christmas favorite if you just add a little greenery to the mix. From where you sit right now, take a quick look around. I am sure you will see all sorts of things that can quickly become a decoration you will love all season long! Go forth and create!

Denise,
Again, I am amazed that we have a lot of the same things… I used to have the same scoop Kitchen sconces which were originally sold by Home Interiors… I wish I would have kept them now… I have the same gingerbread cookie ornament with the recipe on it and in your previous post, I also have the same sign “Gingerbread Baking Co.” from Target!! I too have a large supply of greenery that I use in vignettes!! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this charming post!!
Hugs,
Deb
Thanks so much Deb! And thank you for reminding me of Home Interiors! I have tried so many times to remember where I got that! I used to love those parties. Next time I can’t figure something out, I’m going to call on you because you probably will have it too! So funny. I think we will be great friends!
Denise,
The little chubby snowman in the kitchen scale is adorable! I enjoyed seeing how you added greenery to your favorites for the Christmas season.
