Spending time outdoors in the summer months is the stuff my dreams are made of all winter long. Sharing appetizers, a bottle of wine, and some great conversation with friends is the absolute ultimate. Come along as I set up the perfect summer evening on the patio!
This house is blessed with many outdoor spaces to while away summer evenings. They all see a lot of traffic this time of year. Each has a purpose but my favorite space is the guest patio. Right off the downstairs guest room and the lower level living room, this is always the first place I get ready for summer each year.
Although quite small, we’ve come to love the cozy feel and ambiance of the setting. It offers privacy for friends and relatives that come to stay. It’s my morning coffee spot when the guest room is empty and a favorite space for cocktails and appetizers. We have often thought about expanding it but we have never followed through. When all is said and done, we felt it best left to a new young family someday.
Unlike the front porch or the deck, this space is covered. We will enjoy it from spring through the fall. I shared a bit of each spot in last year’s post, Making the Most of Outdoor Spaces, Summer to Fall. (Check it out with the link below.)

With a view of the yard in all its summer glory, It feels so peaceful here.
Although I no longer have a cutting garden, potted plants and flowers have taken its place.
The summer fairy garden is also visible from here. Click on the link below to take a closer look.
There are so many things that I love about this space. I like the sound of the water that comes from the two small ponds that surround it.
I love the vintage fans above that keep it cool through the heat of the day.
Going Coastal
Of course it needed to have that beachy vibe!
The tiki bar is the icing on the cake!
Setting Up for the Evening
Although the downstairs bar is right inside the door, I’ve decided to use the tiki bar instead. Tonight it’s set up with drinks and appetizers, for a girl’s night with some of my favorite people.
We opted to start with some crab stuffed mushrooms (recipe below) and a glass of Chardonnay. Using a tiered tray for both looks and convenience, we have everything we need right here.
Keeping it beachy, I’ve brought out my favorite wine glasses. They were a gift from my Bestie and I absolutely love them!
I’m happy with the set up. The tiered tray holds glasses, a favorite bottle of wine, napkins, forks, and a wine stopper. (Not sure why I added the wine stopper… I’m pretty sure we won’t need it!” A seagrass basket holds small appetizer plates.
The tiki torch bluetooth speakers are lit and the music playing is a Margaritaville soundtrack. Loud enough for a party atmosphere but soft enough to allow conversation. There are two sets of speakers synchronized. One sits above to the right of the pelican that landed on the lamp by the bar sign.
The fairy lantern is lit up to add to the ambiance. In addition, the mint candle brings the scent of the garden to the patio as well.
This little lantern remains my number one most pinned project to date. Check it out below!
Lighting Up the Night
In a few hours, the lights will come on all around the yard.
Fairy lights and solar flowers light up the night.
My favorite is a firefly projector that fills the trees and bushes with flittering lights. They remind me of the lightening bugs from summer nights back home in Ohio. Although I’ve seen an occasional firefly in Colorado, I know they have simply lost their way.
Since we won’t be together on my Bestie’s upcoming birthday, we are celebrating tonight instead. My gift is a printable that describes our relationship in just a few words. I’m sharing this and several others in the Subscriber’s Printable Library. See what’s new below!
