Spring Cleaning 2021

It is -3 degrees outside as I write this post.  I won’t be starting my spring cleaning today!  Today I will sit in my favorite chair by the fireplace, drink another cup of coffee, and enjoy my cozy winter home.

But…I will plan.  Plan how I will tackle spring cleaning when things warm up a bit.  While technically the new year starts in the middle of winter, for me it’s always been spring.  Spring is the season of renewal and I’m always so excited for its arrival.

Spring is the time for planning.  To think about new projects for the year ahead, plan trips and vacations, and of course give my home a thorough spring cleaning.  I know for so many that’s a dreaded task but I absolutely love it! It gives me a clean slate to start the year off right. A beautiful new canvas to paint the year ahead of me however I want. Sitting here by the fire, I’m already imaging how I will welcome the new season into my home.

In my mind I’m decorating mantels and tables all over the house. I’m planting flowers and potting plants and wondering which beach I will visit this summer. But first things first! Before I can decorate I need to have that clean slate. Before I can plant outside I need the inside to be finished. See… everything starts with spring cleaning!

A Spring Cleaning Checklist

I am and have always been a “list” person. Nothing gives me the sense of accomplishment like crossing things off my list. So, of course, I needed a Spring Cleaning Checklist! A pretty one that I could hang in my kitchen and keep track of the progress I was making. With spring being the start of our lockdown last year, I had time to create one that I felt would cover everything I needed to do. I decided to share it today because for many of you in warmer climates, this is the perfect time to renew and refresh your home.

While it’s true that I love spring cleaning, I also want to get it done quickly and move on to decorating and enjoying the season itself. For me, I find it’s easiest and ultimately faster to break things down into a daily schedule.

My checklist is really a 7 day challenge with the end result being a fresh, clean, slate. It is a compilation of things I do every year.  With every home being different, you will need to customize it to fit your needs. Not everything on the list is one and done, however, most things once completed, do not need to be done again until fall. For instance, the dryer vent. Not the lint catcher you clean before doing a load, but the main vent to the outdoors. I blow mine out with a leaf blower twice a year. That was something that wasn’t even on my radar until I replaced a dryer that probably would’ve lasted years longer. I just never thought of it!

Because of the year we’ve just had with Covid, I also find that some things I had considered to be once a year tasks, have become almost a daily thing. I certainly go through the disinfectant wipes much quicker these days. At any rate, I hope this checklist once customized, will help with your own spring cleaning ritual.

My Favorite Tools and Supplies

Over the years and through trial and error, I have found several must haves when it comes to spring cleaning. Although I won’t be starting mine for a few weeks still, I am in the middle of my spring organizing right now. Part of that process will be purging all the cleaning tools and supplies that didn’t do what was promised. I’m sharing what has always worked for me below.

Spring Printables

If you are one of the people who find the thought of spring cleaning a daunting one, do not panic when you see the checklist has 4 pages! The last page is simply a pretty spring printable to kick off the new season once you’ve completed your list.

The list is exactly the same that was on the blog last year, however, the theme was a bit different. I’ve added that one back into the library in case flowers are more your thing.

The printables are in a 10 x 8 format and will print without the mats I’ve used to display them above. They are free to all members and you will find them in the Library. Simply add your password when prompted, download, and print. Not a member yet? Your email in the form below will sign you up and your welcome letter with your password will be in your inbox in seconds! I’ll be adding several new spring printables in the coming weeks and you will be the first to know! Happy cleaning everyone!

I pretty much Spring clean the rooms that I decorate every time I change over the decorations in that room…except for changing linens and drapes like I do for Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer…Off to visit your next post…

    1. Thanks Deb! I do the same thing between seasons but really go to town for spring and fall. In fact, my fall cleaning is more important to me since I then have to be closed up tight inside all through the winter. I’ll be visiting again soon to see what you do in the den!
