Summer is here and with it comes an incredible need to surround myself with flowers! Every color, every size, every scent! I simply cannot get enough of them. Bringing in new flowers however, does create a problem of sorts. Where do I put them all????
Well yes…everywhere of course! But…what do I put them in??? My shed is full of pots of every size since I seem to accumulate more each year. But I am always looking for new and different ways to make them really pop!
This bike that I found at Home Goods a few years ago is still one of my favorites. So much fun to put together every year.
Another favorite was a garage sale find just last spring. This server cart is perfect to hold multiple pots of colorful summer flowers. With two shelves and a few outer rings, it worked out great last fall as well. Plenty of room for all the small mums and ornamental plants with room leftover for a pumpkin or two.
As nervous as I’ve been to hit the stores right now, Home Goods reopening was just too much to resist. I found this pretty metal hanger on the sale table. Believe it or not, they are already stocking their shelves for fall!
But my favorite this year led to a project I hadn’t planned on this past week. My neighbor held a garage sale on Friday afternoon. I wandered over to visit and came home with the best surprise! The most perfect place for my pink Calliope Geranium.
I was tempted for a minute to simply refinish it and use it in the house. But the truth of the matter is, as much as I love all the new farmhouse decor, I am not a big vintage collector. I was much more excited to have a new flower stand!
Because I would be applying paint, I wasn’t really concerned about sanding off the finish either. I used an outdoor paint and primer spray from Rust-oleum and it did a great job! Two coats covered the old finish completely. After the required drying time, I sealed it with a clear sealer which is also a Rust-oleum product.
Some of the spindles are loose and will need to be reglued but I am so happy with my purchase! I will work on the spindles tomorrow. Today I think I will just admire how pretty my flowers are right now! Apparently, Teddy is already doing that too!
In conclusion, there are endless ways to make your flower displays pop this summer. Stores like Home Goods, Marshalls and Ross have so many fun outdoor pots, stands, and hangers. They can certainly use the support after being shut down this year. But if you’re really lucky, you may find a repurposing treasure right in your own garage!
