Can You Grow a Tray From a Single Acorn?

If you’re coming over from the Eclectic Red Barn, welcome! Beverly is just so creative, isn’t she?!!

A tray is such a great way to bring a little bit of the season into focus. Concentrated in one spot, it’s the perfect place to add a touch of Autumn to your home.

Tiered trays are a much anticipated project of mine for every new season and fall is always a favorite. With the many different colors that come with it, the possibilities are endless. This year, copper is my color of choice. I had a cute little copper acorn that caught my eye a while back so I decided I would build my tray from there.

At one time I was that person that made the thrift store rounds buying up all the copper jello molds I could find. For years, they were on the wall above my kitchen cabinets. Eventually I tired of them and they went back to the thrift stores once again. Today, I am scouring the house for any copper I might have hidden somewhere!

I suppose it’s a bit silly to build an entire tray around an acorn but I do love it! After all, that’s the best way to start. You find that one little thing that speaks to you and it becomes your anchor. From there, through trial and error, you build a beautiful tray.

So… can you grow a tray from a single acorn? YES! Absolutely you can!

Turning an Anchor Into a Theme

Once you’ve found your anchor, the next step is to let your imagination go. Since my anchor is copper in color, I needed to add a few more copper elements. I decided the downstairs bar could help with that. I found two Moscow Mule mugs and filled them with some contrasting faux stems Placing one on each tier, the copper look is coming together.

From there, I added elements that, in the end, will form a theme. Your theme can simply be the splendor of autumn or something a little more specific. For me, it’s all about the warmth of home and the many blessings that make that home possible.

To coordinate with my buffalo plaid kitchen and to showcase the theme, I added a few small signs in matching colors.

Last but certainly not least… that adorable acorn!

Filling in the Blanks

Although all the items that make up a tiered tray are pretty, to really make it pop we need to add in the “filler.”

Anything that reminds you of the autumn season will work perfectly. Leaves, wheat, acorns, pine cones, all great choices! I used the left over eucalyptus from the mugs and added some oats and pip berry picks. Pretty velvet pumpkins and a few pine cones finish things off.

Ooh La La!

The finished tray is exactly what I envisioned when I first found that copper acorn!

CREATE THE LOOK

Since my Lazy Susan tiered tray is visible from both sides, I need to make sure it is pretty on both sides. How did I do?

CREATE THE LOOK

Finally, it needs to be surrounded by things that compliment rather than distract. I found a copper pitcher and rescued it from the thrift store box I’ve been putting together. Filled with orange leaves it is so pretty! A pumpkin with copper accents sits between the two.

Oh my gosh! It even works well with the KitchenAid! Yay!

And that’s a wrap! My fall inspired tray is complete. Your turn!

    1. Thanks Deb! My kitchen was full of copper for the longest time too. Then I got rid of the jello molds thinking I was over it. Apparently I wasn’t! You’re right though… it definitely gives off a warm and welcoming vibe. Great touring with you today and while I was over looking at your tray, I noticed several posts I missed somehow! I’ll be by for another visit soon!

  2. What great copper details Denise – copper’s one of my favorite metals! I laughed at you rescuing the pitcher from the Goodwill bin – I do that all the time and my husband wonders why I even bother to pack things up! 🤣 SO fun touring with you, and I pinned your beautiful tray. Happy Fall!

    1. Thank you Barbara! I do it all the time too and I have the same conversation with my husband every time. You would think after all these years he would just go with it! Great hopping with you and thanks so much for the pin. I have not even opened pinterest yet but I know once I do, I’ll be pinning like crazy! Have a great week!

    1. Thank you Cindy! So glad to meet you too! Thank you for the pin and I’m pretty sure I’ll be pinning all night. You all are just so talented!

  3. This is such a fun tray. I love the copper accents as well and that pitcher you rescued form the donation pile is fabulous. lol. I would hold onto it, not to enable. Anyway, love all the houses on the tray too. It’s so nice to be hopping with you today. XO- MaryJo

    1. Thanks so much MaryJo! It was always “iffy” that the pitcher would make to the thrift store. But when my husband asks why, I’m blaming it on you! Great touring with you. Have a wonderful week.

  4. HI Denise! I love a tiered tray! I love all the add-ins! Looks amazing! Great job! Did you get that tray at Costco? My friend has one like yours and she got it at Costco. Been searching for it ever since! xo laura

  5. Hi Denise, distributing the copper shine to each level of the tray was a great idea. It definitely draws the eye. Great Fall elements and I loved the rooster. Lynne

    1. Thanks so much Linda. I love that little rooster almost as much as the acorn! Glad you stopped by and have a wonderful weekend!

  6. Denise, starting with that adorable acorn was the right move. You worked in all the other sweet details to make a tiered tray brimming with rich autumn colors. Besides the acorn, I especially liked the little truck, copper elements, and shots of black for contrast.
And I need to mention how much envy I have over the copper Kitchen Aid! Filling it with mini ornamental corn is so lovely!

    Happy October hugs 🙂

    1. Thanks so much Rachelle! I just saw that same little acorn in one of Julie’s posts. It’s just so darn cute. I love the mixer too but I don’t use it like I should anymore! I still have not made even one batch of pumpkin spice cupcakes and they are my favorite! Thanks again and I wish you a beautiful weekend ahead!

  7. Oh Denise, I love love love your Fall tiered tray, it is adorable! The inspiration copper acorn is so pretty, and I love all the elements you combined with it, the white rooster, the copper mug, the cute pumpkin pick up and the buffalo plaid signs, it LOVE it all!!!

  8. Hi, Denise! Nice to meet you! First, let me begin by saying that I am this close to go get my standing mixer and decorating it with colorful corn, because I just love that idea! And I have some colored corn outside 🙂 Now about your tray– so beautiful. I am a big fan of copper and love how you used that as your anchor. And don’t laugh, but when I saw your tray, my first thought was that this is like a fall Hallmark movie in a tray. It has all the perfect elements! Love it so much!

    1. Nice to meet you too Angie! It’s the truck that made you think of a Hallmark movie and I did laugh because I thought that too! I’m jealous that you have a spot to store your standing mixer. Mine is always on the counter because there is no where else to put it. I don’t use it much anymore so I thought I’d make a decoration out of it. Glad you liked it! Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you have a lovely weekend ahead!
