Celebrate Easter with a Simple Spring Table

The Easter holiday is upon us and it’s time to welcome family and friends into our homes. With all that’s happening in the world today, I decided that instead of an elaborate setup, we would celebrate Easter with a simple spring table.

This year will be a little more intimate and a lot more casual than Easters in the past. Just a few good friends who we consider to be our chosen family. But casual can still be pretty and I fully intend to make sure it is!

Buffalo Checks for Easter?

If you came to visit for my spring home tour than you know I am still in love with all things buffalo checked.  Since it’s prominent almost everywhere else in the house, I saw no reason to change it up in the dining room.  Besides, nothing says casual like checks right?

Keeping my spring tablecloth in place, I added a black and white runner to the center.  I carried that over to the chargers and several of the decorations.

I raided my kitchen for these two and they are adorable!

To keep the theme going, I added a bowl of checked eggs and some carrots to the table as well.

The side table holds a buffalo checked welcome and the cutest bunnies of all! ( If you tell the others I said that… I will vehemently deny it!)

Thrift Store Finds

Awhile back, I went thrifting for some pretty Teapots I could use for the spring birthdays on my list.  They turned out as cute as can be.  (You can check them out here.) I used one today as it is a birthday gift for someone who will be joining us for Easter as well. Very cute and it brightens up the back side of the centerpiece as well.

On the same trip to the thrift store, I found a set of dainty little coffee cups and saucers that I purchased for a song with Easter on my mind.  I like to have a small gift at each place setting and those little cups were just the thing. I filled them with violas and tiny birds with a Happy Easter wish tied to the handle. (The tags are available in the Printable Library.)

With the overall theme being black and white, they provide a fun little burst of color at each setting.

Colorful Centerpiece

The centerpiece consists of a black metal scale that I decorated with greenery and eggs. I found the eggs at the Dollar Tree early in the season and I couldn’t resist buying a few. They fit perfectly on the hanging plates and the scale adds some height to the table.

I did not feel the need to go overboard with flowers this year and kept it simple. A little yellow bucket full of snapdragons, daisies, and a few roses works well for a simple spring table. But just as the cups full of blooms brighten each setting, this arrangement adds a taste of sunshine to the whole table.

Marvelous Mismatch

In the past, I’ve always had my holiday table planned well in advance. While I’ve never been able to produce the showstopper tablescapes of so many of the blogging friends I admire, I can do “pretty” most days.

To be honest, I was so excited to find the cute little cups and saucers that I gave little thought to the plates I’d be using. My normal Easter table is full of fine china hand-me-downs in beautiful shades of pink. That just wouldn’t work here and it is much fancier than the look I was going for.

I settled on a combination of blues and whites. Each setting is a bit different but came together with those cute little cups!

The different plate stacks added to the casual feel and I believe I accomplished the “pretty” this time around.

Finishing Touches

With most of the table complete, I began to wonder if maybe I went a little too casual. I tried my pretty gold flatware but it was blatantly out of place. Eventually, I settled on my everyday silver and some simple green water goblets.

This is the point where I gave up any thoughts of elegance and put together a cute bunny napkin fold that works with the table. ( There is a great little video for this fold. Click here if you’d like some cottontails on your table this year. )

As the final touch, I added gold pillar candles on some farmhouse style holders. No matter how casual the look, candles are simply a must in this house!

I’m happy with my simple spring table and we are ready for a wonderful Easter weekend!
