Welcome Fall

Welcome fall! I thought you would never get here! I am finally decked out for the season inside and out, top to bottom with one day to spare!

Please…come on in for a visit and a tour! It is a little chilly out today so possibly a cup of hot apple cider is in order. Did you know that adding a bit of spiced brandy makes that drink a whole lot better? Just a thought!

The Entry

The entry is so important to any seasonal decor. Like they say, you only have one chance to make a first impression! I try to make sure that mine makes a good one.

With all the open floor plans these days, one can take in a lot the minute you enter a home.

My entry and hall tables reflect the seasons all year long. Because of the many colors that can be used for fall decor, this is my favorite time.

The peasant pail was a lucky find at an antique shop years ago. Adding flowers with all the colors of fall has made it a seasonal favorite.

I love using lanterns in my decor because the possibilities are endless! Candles in every shape and size always have a place at my house.

The Kitchen

Let’s start in the kitchen. After all, it is the heart of a home. We have thrown many a party in this house and it never ceases to amaze me just how many people can fit in an average sized kitchen!

I would work hard upstairs and down to create a party atmosphere. Moving furniture to provide large open spaces for people to mingle and cozy little nooks for others to sit and get to know one another. I made sure there were food and drink stations throughout the house….and still everyone seemed to gather in the kitchen! So I tend to go a bit overboard in that room.

I’m so thrilled! No more awful honey oak floors! Although I couldn’t see it at the time, they are so worth all the dust and inconvenience.

During this season, I take full advantage of the space above the cabinets. Seriously, how cute are those scarecrows up there taking in the room?

I had so many fun ways to go with my tiered tray this year. I shared all my options in my Fall Tiered Tray Ideas post. This was not my favorite but I decided to make it useful this time and this is the perfect place to store fall coffee cups.

The Family Room

The family room of course, is where we spend most of our time. It’s important to me that it has a warm and welcoming vibe. The fireplace is the focal point of the room and is the literal reason for the warmth most days. But the word means much more than that when applying it to home decor. Bringing in warmth with colors and fabrics is a big part of creating a harvest home. Candles, throws, and lighting can help to accomplish that warmth as well. The welcoming part is all in the accents you display around your home.

I have two sisters that inspire me endlessly with their talents in all things home decor. I featured their fall homes in my All In The Family post a few weeks ago. One is a Halloween fanatic and the other is strictly a fall gal. I fall somewhere in the middle. This is evident in the mantle decor I choose. I love to mix in a little spooky with my traditional fall decor.

Candles, whether real or battery operated, play a big part in the warmth of a room as well as provide a welcoming feel.

Throws are always a great accent for a room but as the weather cools, they are practical as well.

The Dining Room

The dining room is not used much these days. Due to social distancing we haven’t had much of a need for it. Still, I am hoping things change soon. With that in mind, I decided to deck it out as if a huge family Thanksgiving was in the works. I mean, you never know right?

I do love this room and nevermore than in the fall. Crazy as it sounds, I consider my china cabinet to be a seasonal tool as well. Most of the year it holds a lot of crystal and large pieces that I never really use. So for the last part of the year, from autumn through Christmas, I change it to reflect the seasons.

Decorative plates, pumpkins and gourds, and all sorts of pretty little candles make it so much more interesting than plain crystal bowls. With the lights inside, it draws one’s attention as soon as you enter the front door.

The Living Room

The living room is another place that sees little use right now. It was great to have for entertaining in the past but right now it’s quite a lonely room. I painted my chocolate wall a few years back and I still absolutely love it. Because of that though, I do tend to use mostly neutrals in this room. The whites, tans, and browns look better than traditional fall colors here.

I am so glad you came by for a visit! Please stop by again soon!

The lower level and outside spaces are decked out for fall too but I will save that for another day! Don’t forget to stop by the Library and pick up a piece of printable art to add to your own fall decor! Always free for members to download and print.
