Patio Update With A New Look For Fall

The downstairs patio is my favorite place to be most days. I’m always anxious to get it ready for the coming seasons! Although covered, it is open to the back yard elements. Inclement weather has an effect on the time we can spend there so I am hoping for the mild autumn days of years past. With that in mind, I wanted to do a patio update with a new look for fall to enjoy awhile longer.

Fall Coffee Spot

The mornings are getting cooler here and it’s definitely what you would call “sweater weather” in the early hours of the day. But this will continue to be the spot for coffee and my morning musings until the snow comes and spoils my routine!

I light my favorite fall candle, add a little pumpkin spice syrup to my breakfast blend, and enjoy the crisp, fall, air. Since my maple tree has already lost most of its leaves, the candle just serves to emphasize the scent already a part of every breeze.

Autumn Warmth and Comfort

Of course my patio update with a new look for fall required adding a warm throw which is essential for an autumn evening.

Changing out the pillows to a softer, seasonal, fabric makes this the perfect spot for an afternoon nap as well.

Seasonal Planter Refresh

Although most of my plants have already succumbed to the colder evenings, the vincas are still thriving. I’ve already cleaned out and stored several pots for the winter but these will stay here awhile longer. I simply added a few fall elements and I will keep them around through the autumn months. I’ve learned, however, that faux pumpkins are a much better choice then using the real thing. The squirrels had a wonderful time destroying last year’s real counterparts!

I’m hoping that my larger than life squirrel statue will further deter them. He has definitely scared the dogs a time or two!

A Little Bit of Fall at the Bar

As long as the weather holds out, the patio will still be the place for drinks and appetizers when guests come to visit. The outdoor bar is an important part of that plan! My patio update with a new look for fall extends here too.

With the coastal theme, I thought a pretty fall lighthouse decoration would be perfect here.

I added a favorite fall print from my coastal collection and a few pumpkins. The bar is now ready for autumn too!

Leaves in the Pond, Oh My!

I’ve decided I will leave the smaller of our ponds uncovered through October at least. It’s a great spot for a potted mum and the sound of the water is so soothing! I’ll pay the price when the last of the leaves make their way in to the water but it’s worth it. It will definitely need a bit of cleanup before winterizing this year!

Fall Patio Lights

Last but not least, the patio lanterns were given a fall refresh as well. Set to turn on right before dusk, they bring such a wonderful cozy feel to the space!

My patio update is now complete. All that’s left is to enjoy it! Starting right now!

  1. What a lovely space Denise – so cozy! I can see curling up there with your pumpkin spice. I love the stained glass shade on your candle – that’s adorable. Did it come with the candle, or did you put your own on it?

Either way, your beautiful photos made me want to run out and sit on the porch too. I’ll just add an umbrella to that cozy scene! 🙂 Thanks for all the inspiration!

    1. Thank you Barbara! I’m hoping the weather holds out to enjoy it awhile longer. We just added an outdoor heater so I’m hoping I have many more mornings to enjoy there. I love that shade too. It came from the Yankee Candle store years ago. So glad you stopped by. Have a great week!

I love your patio and I am so jealous that you have a roof over it…. It looks so cozy and inviting…We will soon be packing up all out outside things in the back in preparation for the coming Winter!! Stay safe, happy and healthy!

    1. Thanks Debbie! It does have a roof but once the snow starts, it really doesn’t matter. I’ve had some pretty big drifts out there if the wind blows that way. I’ve got all the furniture covers ready but I’m hoping we can enjoy it for a few more weeks at least!

    1. Thanks Joanne! So far the weather has been cooperating and I’m spending a lot of time out there. Glad you stopped by and have a wonderful week!

  3. I love drinking my coffee outside, too, and you have the perfect space for it. At my previous home, I had a little pond like yours, and I miss it so much.

    Just lovely!

    1. Thank you Niky! There really is something so soothing about the sound of the water. We used to have koi in a larger pond in the yard until I realized it attracted snakes. I’m not a fan so we gave the fish away and now we shut that one done as well. Thanks again for stopping by and have a great week.
