With 2021 finally here, I still find myself trying to come to terms with 2020. The blog kept me busy through the year but there were so many times that I struggled with the content. Writing about trivial things like how to style a sofa table seemed absolutely crazy when I would finally sit down to watch the nightly news. But I forged ahead hoping that at the very least, my post would offer someone a bit of a distraction from their troubles. With that hope still in my heart, I decided to look back and see what your favorite posts of 2020 were.
Do it yourself – Fairy Lantern
- 1. This was my number one on the favorite posts of 2020 list. I loved this little project so much but I had no idea that it would bring so much attention. I love the summers here and putting together my outdoor spaces is always at the top of my list. I’ve done several fairy gardens over the years but the lantern is my favorite. As it turns out… it was your favorite too!
A great big THANK YOU to our Essential Workers
- 2. I wrote this post in April during the height of lockdowns around the world. It included a printable intended for all the people in our lives that were working so hard to keep us all safe. I loved seeing people everywhere go to their balconies, front porches, even to their roofs to clap for our front line workers. They were and still are so incredibly amazing. But the printable was made with the grocery clerks and delivery drivers in mind. Ordinary people who went to work every day, did their jobs, and went home. All of a sudden we were relying on these ordinary people to survive. We have always looked to our doctors, nurses, and frontline workers in traumatic times. But all the others that we took for granted for so long really did become essential. This was my way of letting them know how much they were appreciated. I love that this was one of your favorite posts of 2020!
Signs of the Season – Autumn
- 3. If you are a subscriber of the blog, then you are well aware that my hubby and I do not see eye to eye on my use of signs in my seasonal decor. I love them and he finds them ridiculous… which make it all the more fun to bring a new one home! I’m guessing a lot of you can relate to this conflict since this post and my subsequent Signs of the Season, Christmas Edition are the 3rd and 4th most popular posts from last year!
Signs of the Season
- 4. Christmas Edition
Do It Yourself – Christmas Memorial Lantern
- 5. This one makes me very sad. The fact that this was saved so many times, tells me that so many of you suffered loss this past year in one way or another. I first posted this for a Christmas in July challenge. The closer we came to the holidays, the more it was saved. I received countless messages asking for ideas to help make it more personal. So many sent me emails with stories of why they needed to make one. So heartbreaking! But I loved this project because I truly believe every word of the poem that I used on my lanterns. It gave me so much comfort during the losses we suffered in years past.
Aromatherapy for Stress Relief
- 6. While essential oils are very popular these days, I do believe the popularity of this particular post was a sign of the times. I know I diffused one of these blends almost daily through the year.
Making the Most of Outdoor Spaces
- 7. I believe the popularity of this post was also a sign of the times. Being stuck at home inspired so many to do the updates to porches, patios, and decks that they had planned for years. I know we spent most of our time on the deck this summer. I am hoping we will be making the most of our outdoor spaces again this year… only this time I hope it can be with family and friends!
Fall Tiered Tray Ideas
- 8. I LOVE fall! Apparently you all do too! Decorating for this season might just be the most fun of all! Fall brings so many beautiful colors, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and usually beautiful weather here in Colorado. This post brought in so many emails. Everyone wanted to know where the buffalo checked acorn came from. Hobby Lobby…2 years ago!
Fall Lanterns
9. Lanterns are always a big part of my decor all year long. I love when a new season rolls around and I can take them apart and start over again! It turns out that my fall lanterns made the list of favorite posts of 2020. Again, I think the colors of the season itself makes everything more beautiful!
2020 Christmas Home Tour
- 10. Decorating for Christmas is always a labor of love for me. But this year… it was more than that. I needed to do it. I started earlier than ever and I loved every minute of it. I started early because I wanted to be able to enjoy it longer. I wanted the joy it brings me to sit by the fire and feel that peace of the season engulf me. That is exactly what I did for most of December. I had nowhere I needed to be, no parties to plan, no rush to a store before closing. I did all of my shopping online and I spent the month by the fire just being at peace. Ending 2020 with a beautiful Christmas season was just what I needed and I am so grateful for that! I feel refreshed and ready to take on 2021!

I adore ALL your lantern ideas and I’m not surprised the fairy garden one made the most popular post category. Like your other readers, the memorial lantern touched me the most, having lost both my parents and a brother. Looking forward to seeing what you have in store for us this year, Denise!
Thanks so much Marie! I have found such comfort in the poem that is used for the lantern. I hope you do too! I am praying for a much better year ahead for all of us.
