Spring Home Tour 2021

Finally! It’s the first day of spring!  It certainly seemed to take forever to get here this year! The snow storm we had last week was a reminder just how crazy springtime in the Rockies really is! One day it’s 70 degrees outside and the next there is two feet of snow!  But today it’s a balmy 62 so I’ll take it! Of course, it is supposed to snow again tomorrow but I’m living for today! With that in mind, it is the perfect day for my 2021 Spring Home Tour!

The Importance of Home

If we have learned anything from 2020, I think it is how incredibly important home is! In the blink of an eye it became a sanctuary we had no idea we needed. It became an office, a classroom, a restaurant, and countless other things. We turned it into theaters with incredible movie nights complete with popcorn and soda. It became our favorite restaurant with more take out then home cooked meals trying to support our communities. The kitchen table doubled as a desk more often than not and for many it became a hospital where we battled Covid alone. Home…what an incredible place!

Because it is… an incredible place, making sure it is a welcoming one has been my focus long before last year. It is always changing with the seasons but the atmosphere is always the same. At least that is my goal.

Although I will be changing and rearranging things (I always do) the house is decked out for the spring season so come on in!

A Warm Welcome in the Entry

Of course the best place to start a spring home tour is right here in the entry! I am always so excited to see the spring birds come back each year!.  Such a beautiful sign that soon there will be sunny skies and flowers popping up all over. I put together my entry table with the birds in mind.

We had quite a few downed branches from the wind this year so I put one to use with a bird’s nest I made. (You can find the simple tutorial to make one of your own right here.) Of course, it is dwarfed sitting next to birdzilla and her gigantic nest but it makes things interesting. I kept the bird theme going in this year’s welcome print.

The entry is such an important part of a seasonal home.  It sets the tone for any visitor.  In case the weather outside does not cooperate, once inside the door, the feeling of spring is everywhere!

Having two tables visible from just inside the front door, I have plenty of space to bring in the season.  I gave the swag above this table a bit of a refresh this year. The pink flowers match those inside my favorite lantern which sits here as well. Although my diffuser is a constant most of the year, I like having a candle in the entry to add warmth. I added the candle ring this year and you can find the tutorial for that right here.

Vintage Vibes in the Living Room

Since the living room furniture is much more traditional then anywhere else in the house, the accents here take on a bit of a vintage vibe.  This room is not used very often these days but I’ve added touches of spring to the tables there.

The Dining Room – Better Days Ahead

This room is quite formal as well. It has been sitting idle for the past year and will be quiet again for the upcoming Easter holiday. Although we have received our first Covid vaccine shot ( yay! ) the second is still a few weeks off. We are following the guidelines and will not be having a full on Easter celebration again this year. Last year things were still up in the air early in March so I prepared different settings for a dinner that never actually happened. Not falling for that again! Still, I am so excited just knowing that there are better days ahead!

So with no chance of a large family dinner, I’ve used the table to display some favorite decorations instead.

The Kitchen – The Heart of a Home

The kitchen, like most of yours, has always been the gathering place for friends and family alike. The old saying that the kitchen is the heart of the home is so true! When I’m decorating for a new season, I always spend a lot of time here. I want the kitchen to be warm and welcoming for everyone. Our spring home tour continues right here!

CREATE THE LOOK

I have always loved the look of black and white buffalo checks. It is very dominant in the kitchen. After the Christmas Holidays with all the red and green, this room has been very neutral through the winter months. Spring lets me bring the color back in. This year, I have been obsessed with purple. Little touches here and there brighten up the overall look for this pretty season.

I might have gone a little overboard with this tiered tray! Of course I’ve used a lot of pastels but the bright purple pansies really make it pop.

I love using garland in my trays and since purple is my thing this year, I put together a lavender one. I’ve shared the cutouts in the Printable Library and although it’s pretty self explanatory, I did put some instructions in my post Spring Tiered Trays.

A window is always a focal point in any room and the kitchen is no exception. With the tiered tray on one side, I needed to balance things out with something of the same height.

I’ve used faux purple flowers throughout this room. I will replace them with violets and pansies as soon as things warm up around here! With another snow storm on the way, it’s too cold for them in the windows so these will have to do for now.

For one more splash of purple, I did a refresh on a boxwood wreath for the back door. I used the excess garland from my tray and made a pretty bow with some ribbon I had on hand. The purple bird was an impulse buy and I’m so glad that once again I gave in!

I use the space above my cabinets for some of my favorite decorations. Seasonal art and a lot of greenery for this time of year. They are out of the way there but still add to the overall look.

The island is quite small so we do not use it much for food prep. Being a different color than the cabinets though, it automatically draws the eye. For that reason, I definitely needed some spring accents there.

A favorite place for all of us in the kitchen is the coffee bar. First stop every morning! Because of that, I wanted to bring a feeling of spring to this area too.

This tiered tray holds a lot of springtime inspiration. So nice of Peter Rabbit to watch over things from his spot inside the fillable lamp too!

The breakfast table is set with a spring feel as well.

I love our spring kitchen!

The Family Room – Family is Everything

The family room is such a vital part of the house which makes it the most important stop on our spring home tour. Besides the kitchen, most of our time is spent right here. The lower level family room will get a workout once summer arrives, but for now this is it! We eat here, watch movies, visit with friends, and I work from here too. Since family is the most important thing, I needed this room to be both cozy and comfortable. It also has the most defined focal point in the house. For those reasons, this is always where the spring decorating begins.

CREATE THE LOOK

Another focal point for this room is the sofa table. As it is seen most completely from the kitchen, I added a few buffalo checked accents to the basket there. The pretty spring sign in the middle is my take on an old Pinterest tutorial I found years ago. You can check out the original in an old post from ThriftyParsonageLiving.com.

Spring is everywhere in this room. The tables, the art, and the fabrics bring in the colors of the season.

I’ve stayed with the soft pastels for the most part but a burst of a deeper pink in the tulips is a welcome surprise.

I also felt a little bit of purple was in order here!

How cute is this little guy??? And… of course, a spring update to the ladder was a must!

  1. Denise, I enjoyed your spring home tour of your beautiful spaces. I’m sorry you are still having snow. I’m in TX, and we had to deal with snow and ice twice this winter, with the last episode over a week long. Not the norm for us! I’m more than ready for our spring weather. Happy Easter to you!

    1. Thank you Sarah! We have several friends in Texas and it was amazing to see their posts when you had your storms! I’m ready for spring too but so far the weather is nothing but winter! But, I know it’s coming. Happy Easter and thank you so much for stopping by!

  2. Very inviting, Denise. I love your kitchen, and use of purple and pinks for a spring look. I could not handle that much snow! We have all four seasons, and although our winters are grey and drab, we can usually still see the ground, all but for a few snows typically. We are in spring full force now. My absolute favorite. I wish it could last longer than 3 mos!

    1. Thanks so much Rita! Normally we do not get this much snow in the Denver area but lately it’s been crazy. What gets to me more than the snow though is the temperature swings. We have a few beautiful days in 70’s and then it’s down in the 30’s again. We do have a lot of sunshine all year though so that does help. Our 2nd vaccine is on April 8th so by the time we venture out, we should have spring weather at least! Have a wonderful Easter with your family!

    1. Thanks so much! You always say the nicest things. The kitchen is exactly how I want it. If I could cut out everything but the kitchen and family room I would! Time to downsize I think!

  3. Wow! There were so many lovely things to look at throughout your home. It’s so warm and welcoming, and all of your various vignettes are perfect for spring! So glad I got to “visit”!
